We dropped off our invites with the calligrapher the first week of July, and she said that she''d return them to us the first week of August (I had asked for August 4th). Now I''m probably being paranoid, but she says she''ll finish around the 6th and then has to ship them to us, which means realistically we may not get them until the 11th or 12th. Factoring in time for stuffing and taking to the post office, that''s the 14th before we can even mail them.

We have a reply date of September 15 on our RSVP cards. For our non-US guests, that really will only give them 1 week of holding the invitation before they have to send an RSVP. The benefit is every one of them got a save-the-date, so they''ve known about the date and have had our website info for a while.

But we didn''t send save-the-dates to our US guests. If they don''t get their invitations until, say, August 20th, is a reply date of September 15 really short notice?

I guess I had just assumed we would be able to mail everything out by the end of the first week of August (August 8th).

Thanks!

I don''t think that should be a problem. It''s unfortunate that your calligrapher isn''t going to be finished with them as promised, but I usually only need enough time to check my planner before sending in a response to a wedding invitation.

And I hate to say it, but it might be better that people don''t have a lot of time. We found that a lot of people waited until the very last minute to send in their responses, so this way they won''t be able to procrastinate quite so much!

Please post pictures of your calligraphied envelopes when you get them, I love calligraphy!

Maybe faster shipping method is in order for some portion here? On US guests, I think your timeline is fine. More time is more time for them to lose or forget your invite. Since you have already notified the overseas guests, your tight timeline is OK but not ideal. You are only really a week off your original timeline so try not to stress too much! Almost there!

Can she ship the first half when they''re completed, then ship the last half August 6th?

Thank you everyone for the quick responses!

I have asked the calligrapher to ship the invitations back to me via overnight delivery, so that I will still get them the first week of August (as we had originally agreed). Hopefully she will be OK with that. If not, I agree that asking for 2 separate shipments is a good compromise!

Haven, they will not be as gorgeous as yours, that''s for sure! We got ours done in a deep brown ink, on ecru paper (our invitations are a muted red on ecru, letterpress). The font is just an italic, rather than script font. We have to send out quite a bunch so I went for the cheaper (and I thought QUICKER) option!!
