we''re having a friend/groomsmen design our invitations to save some money. we have the invitation itself designed, but i''m not sure what else to include. we''ll include the rsvp card - do we need to do a separate reception card with the address of the reception hall and our wedding website on it (for directions and the online rsvp if they want)?

if so, how big are these things? we''ll have to buy envelopes to fit the rsvp cards, so i want to design them to be the standard size. also, whats the best way to assemble the invitation? we''re not doing pocketfolds or anything, so do we just layer them according to size and stick them in the envelope? would it be better to tie them with a ribbon?

help, i feel so clueless!

the reception info can go on the same card as the invitation (not the rsvp). at the bottom, you can say "reception to follow at ..." not sure about the website, we didn''t go that route.

envelope sizes:
outer env - A7.5
inner env - A7
RSVP env - 4 bar

the rsvp card is tucked under the rsvp envelope flap. that goes on top of the invite. and all of that goes into the inner envelope, which goes inside the outer envelope. make sense?

you can group them together without a ribbon just fine.

thanks jcrow!

if anyone did have a reception card, what info did you put on them?

Hi Mimzy, Congrats on your wedding!

My reception card said:

We look forward to celebrating with you!

Following the ceremony, please join us for
cocktails, dinner, and merriment

Venue Location

We opted not to have the address, as it is semi-well known, and preferred a cleaner look =)

eta: our invitations came as a set - invite, invite envelope, rsvp card, rsvp envelope, plus 1 card. We opted for reception card instead of directions, but had we been able to purchase each element separately, we probably wouldn't have had the extra card.

thanks clop! about how big was the reception card in relation to your invite?

Hi Mimzy,

My reception card was approx 3.5 x 5, the same size as the rsvp card.

I added another card & stated: "the xxxx estate is located at xxxxx"
then a solid line, then below that the schedule of events...ceremony time, "reception immediately to follow"

I used an email address for people to rsvp to (made a new one up using our names x&[email protected]) made it on hotmail. When people rsvp''d to the email, I set one of those automatic vacation responses to reply with a link to googlemaps directions to the venue and a few other details I wanted them to know, but didn''t want to include in the invitation itself.

Worked great - no rsvp cards to deal with.

that''s a good idea! we have an online rsvp also (on the website) with a confirmation email, but i hadn''t thought to include the directions on there. i also hadn''t thought to do the address of the ceremony on the reception card too, it would make the invite less cluttered. thanks!

I didnt want a ton of inserts, so my invitation includes
Invite- it has both ceremony & reception, times, and city, state
RSVP
1 Directional card- with addresses to both ceremony & reception, one printed on each side and website address for hotel & map directions.
