Hi

I am getting some of my pieces appraised for insurance purposes, the SA told me that when I come in the pieces will be kept by the store for up to a week to be photographed, measureing etc.

In the UK I have had photos and measuing done on the spot during my appointment - the appointement did take a good hour, but I came with my pieces and left with them.

So is this normal, why would it take a few days to a week, I surely with oranisation it could all be done with the customer, which for me is a fun process anyway so I dont mind the time spent watching it happen.

???

Sounds like they have a backlog of work, or perhaps no appraiser on staff and they have to wait for one to come in, or send it out.

While-you-wait appointments are more the minority than the norm. If you want a while-you-wait appointment, ask for it. Many companies will accomodate you. If they don''t it could (possibly) be because they''re sending them out-of-store to have the work done.

thanks, will try to ask for a while you wait.

they definately have an appraiser at the store, I just dont see the need to be without my pieces for that long

thanks again,

I''ve had it done both ways, while-you-wait and in for a few days. I didn''t like the while-you-wait approach too much because the appraiser seemed rushed. I would ask about the delay, likely it is just a backlog which makes sense.
