some are saying that Leo's character wears his wedding band during scenes where he is dreaming, but not the "real life" scenes. At the end, apparently he does not have his wedding band on.

In addition, I believe that the kids were supposed to have showed aging (even though it didn't really seem that way) because they had different actors playing the children at different ages (also mentioned in the above article).

I think they were in reality, and i'm glad they were, because I love a happy ending!

I had a theory throughout the movie and I'm sticking to it.
It's very difficult to explain in a forum fully.
I believe that he is still dreaming. I believe that his wife is still very much alive and that she was right, the world they were in was not real. I think the fact that she felt that her kids were not real is an indication of that. A mother knows these things.
The repetition of certain themes in the movie is also key here. The train that appears out of nowhere (even though he did not place it there), and the repetition of "take a leap of faith", by his wife and his employer is important.

I believe that there is a greater "inception" taking place. His wife is trying to wake him up.
She won't allow him to be the architect because she is controlling it all, and she is preventing him from going deeper and deeper into a dream world.

His wife (who has woken up) is constantly placing themes in his head to lead him back. He is too far gone to wake him up the ordinary way, so she leads him through this elaborate dream maze, constantly taunting him with visions of her and the fact that he cannot see his children's faces. She knows that this will place the desire within him to "get home".
He has to give up on the idea of her in a dream world before he can get back to the real world.

In the final scene, I believe he has reached the final phase in the "maze" where she is able to wake him up.

I totally agree with you. I think he is sleeping and she is trying to bring him back. You were able to express my toughts perfectly

Really? That's very interesting! I've read a few discussions since watching the movie, but I haven't seen that one. Can you post a link? It would be very interesting to read a similar take on it.

Wow that's really interesting Kribbie. That might also explain why she appears malevolent...she is trying to get him to let go of her so he can wake up.
