I can''t stand synthetics.
They feel yucky and make me sweat.
I''ll only wear wool if there is 100% cotton between me and the wool.
I don''t mind silk or linen but prefer cotton.

Even my bedsheets must be 100% cotton.

Are you a fabric snob too?

Well, my t-shirts and jeans (oviously) are cotton, but as far as sweaters about 1/3-1/2 are wool and then I have many scarves, some are cashmere and others are rayon. (Oh, and I always wear a cotton camisole type garment under my sweaters, so even with my wool ones, only my arms are touching the wool.)

I become bored of my clothes very fast and wouldn't survive wearing only one type of fabric.

if you want more details. . .however, my panties are cotton. . .

Not totally, but definitely for athletic activities.

Performance fabrics only for them--no cotton! Under Armour is my friend!!

pretty much - not entirely. They have these bamboo sheets that are a poly mix and I''m like why why why would you do that? Go through the trouble of touting a green product and then not mix it with a natural fiber? boo!!!

I would rather have silk sheets than cotton, but I don''t do synth sheets. My undies, most of my shirts, all of my sweaters are cotton but my bras are not all cotton (the ones that are would not work for me nor be in my size) but boy I wish they were! Also my pants usually have something else in them that is out of my control.

Agreed! I do not wear cotton to work out. It kills me!

When I was little I could only wear 100% cotton, anything else made me red and horribly itchy. Everything had to be cotton - hats, socks, school uniforms, gloves...

It went away sometime in early highschool, and now that I''m free from that particular brand of unpleasantness I embrace acrylic

. Ditto on the cotton only for working out, though!!

I am a huge fan of natural fibers: cotton, pure wool, cashmere, silk, linen and so on. I think around 90% of my clothes are natural fiber (or natural fiber with less than 4% of spandex or similar).

So, yes, I am something of a fabric snob. But my boyfriend always mentions how soft and yummy my clothes are!

Heh, I don''t care too much. I''m fine with synthetics, especially rayon velvet. I do love me some silk, though. I would love to find a few yards of antique 100% silk velvet to make into something. You can''t get that nowadays, or at least not without selling a body part. Modern silk velvet is like 18% silk, and it''s still pretty and I love it, but I found an antique 100% silk velvet scarf at work and almost had to lick it, it was so gorgeous.

yes, fabric snob. don''t dress fancy or dress up but love "real" fabric.

I''m quite a fabric snob as well. I try to only buy natural fibers like cotton, silk, wool, and sometimes rayon for clothing AND household items. Occasionally I''ll make an exception for a small percentage of polyester, etc if its something I really need.

Cotton only at my house for many reasons.

Good thread, Kenny!

I think natural fibers/fabrics are most comfortable to human skin, especially cotton and silk as they offer the most breathability and typically are non-allergenic. I can't wear wool socks or wool sweaters that come in contact with my skin due to an allergy. I love linen but I find most ready-to-wear linen apparel that I can afford to be scratchy and of course there's the wrinkle factor. Cotton is wonderful for most things, i.e. jeans, pajamas, tee-shirts, etc. However, I'm given to looking for cotton twill denim with a tiny percentage of stretch (spandex, etc.), tee-shirts with a hint of Lycra, things like that. Wool suiting is fine as long as I'm wearing a cotton or silk blouse under the jacket and the trousers are lined with (omg!) acetate or some other synthetic so the wool isn't really touching my skin.

Sheets=cotton all the way. I like a crisp 250 TC percale. Anything higher is too soft for me. Same-ish for PJ's--I like a soft cotton lawn fabric or cotton sheeting that has been pre-washed and softened.

Socks/exercise apparel/brassieres canNOT be 100% cotton. I will chafe and DIE.

Winter coats have either got to be wool with thinsulate inner lining and acetate interior (the actual lining) or synthetic (nylon) with down interior. It's COLD in the midwest!

Natural fibers are great, but technology has given them great help in the form of synthetic complements.

I am not sure. I never check tags to see what they are made out of. When shopping, if I like the shirt I will take it in the dressing room with me and that is where I make the decision. I do not like scratchy. Other than that I honestly don''t care what it is made out of.

As a young professional everything I wore was silk or wool. Silk sheets, underwear, blouses, dresses.

Then I had a baby.

That put a stop to that.

I had no idea how much babies spit up, and those sticky fingers...OMG.

We''re an all cotton house for jeans, casual wear, to exercise in and definitely to sleep on. I had to slowly buy new sheets when we got a new set of mattresses for our anniversary last year and sleeping on all cotton sateen with 400 + thread counts is delicious. I can''t wear poly blends myself. I find that I perspire if I do. Both my husband''s and my suits and suit separates are all wool, usually worsted wool.

I''m definitely a fabric snob, but I lived through the 70s and 80s with nylon and Qiana Huk-a-poo shirts and polyester pants. Been there, worn that, thought it was gross then, not going backwards.

One of my friends recently told me that she goes to the dry cleaner about once a week. I asked her what on earth she was doing there, since I only go every few months to clean a comforter, and she said "all of my clothes are dry-clean only!" When I mentioned it to DH, we had to laugh, because between the two of us, we have very few items that aren''t cotton - a couple cashmere/wool sweaters, one or two poly blend shirts for me (I typically hate how cheap these fabrics feel), and that''s about it.

Love cotton, cashmere etc...

Allergic to wool, so that''s out.

LOVE my Beech fiber sheets. OMG so soft. Love them. Can''t sleep on anything else.

Clothes... eh. Whatever. As long as they''re not itchy wool I''m not that worried about it.

Cotton underwear. Something drilled taught to us during army training. We wear nomex overall in armor vehicles, some fire resistance, but that will do you no good if your nylon underwear melts first. :P

I prefer 100% cotton, OR mostly cotton with a touch of spandex. I find that sometimes 100% cotton clothing loses its shape or stretches out over time
14.gif
, hence the preference for a little spandex.

I can''t stand rayon, acrylic, nylon or polyester. Yuck!
