DA's creator and writer, Julian Fellows, also wrote the 4-episode series, "Titanic" - now streaming on Netflix.
Though the plot is of course old-hat by now, Fellows used a fresh device to peal back this very dense story in layers.
All four episodes cover about the same period of time, but each concentrates on different characters or story lines.
It starts up in First Class and eventually makes its way downstairs below the metal bars that kept steerage passengers locked up till their betters were safely rowing away from the sinking ship in half-filled lifeboats.
The four episodes are stitched together by a few key scene fragments that reappear surprisingly.
In one episode you'll see someone whisper something, but only hear what they whispered in the next episode.
Or you may hear the exact same line from the same character, but shot from a different camera angle and woven into a scene about other characters.
At the beginning of episode 2 I thought I was watching episode 1 again.
It's all very clever.
I'm not aware this has ever been done before.
Very, well done.
