Hi LV! I''m sure your new house is just as gorgeous as your old house! It''s funny-I get so used to being around old houses all the time that I didn''t even think that other towns wouldn''t have huge areas full of old houses!

Our closing date is next Friday and I''m starting to get very excited-I can''t wait to move in! My husband and I have already picked out pretty much all of the paint colors and a lot of the furniture we want in the new house! I wanted to go order a couch this week but I''m pretty sick so I''m couch-ridden at the moment. I''ve been watching HGTV all day so I can get my fix!

That''s so awesome that you got your mayor to plant those trees-I bet your neighbors loved you for it. There are a decent amount of big, old trees on my new house''s street, which is nice. I drive a scooter to work now and I really notice and appreciate all the streets with big shady trees on them!

I''ll definitely post pics of my new house once we get in there. Maybe I''ll do some before/after shots so you can see all the ugly stuff I''m going to change!

I am hopefully going to be closing on a house in a few weeks (

!) and the radiators in the house are a little rough looking. They definitely need to be either painted or enclosed.

I started looking into radiator boxes/covers but I''m not sure if I like them. However, it might just be because I''m not used to them-all of the apartments and houses I''ve ever lived in haven''t had them.

So if you have radiators, do you have boxes/covers for them? Why or why not? And if you do have the boxes/covers, do you like them?

Thanks in advance!

I don''t like standard rads and in our old house we DIY''ed these covers. Very cheap and easy to do - just boring

But in the new build I went out of my way to source trad ''cast iron'' victorian style column rads and will not cover them.

This is the store pic of our new rads. IMHO if you have rads like this I would recondition not cover. I think they are beautiful

My sister has these, they look awesome, especially with chrome taps. I was wondering how your project was coming along Steel.

Thanks for chiming in, Steel! Those are exactly the type of radiators in the new house. Maybe I''ll see how hard it will be to paint/refinish them before I buy covers. I''ve heard painting cuts down on their effectiveness so I''m a little leery of paint. I''m not sure if that''s true, though-I''ll have to do some more research!

The bathroom, where you can see just a touch of the basket-weave floor tile and the lovely subway tile! That''s all!

We have the same bathroom floor and similar subway tile! :)

The current apartment I live in has several radiators and I was lucky enough that it came with radiator covers in some rooms. All of them are painted and I do not think the paint gets in the way of the heat, as my apartment is plenty warm in the in the cold months. My apartment is fairly large for a vintage apartment in my area (1200 sq ft) and drafty, however, I am always warm when they are turned on.

Hi omie! How have you been? (I love seeing your adorable kitty avatar!) You know, all my radiators in my current apartment are painted too, and I never thought it was an issue, but I read somewhere that paint can cut down on the heat radiators give. It was probably on a radiator cover website, though, so I won''t place too much stock in that!

Do you think the radiator covers look nicer than the painted radiators? Or can you take them or leave them?

We''re actually in a similarly sized apartment (1100 square feet) and it made it hard to find a house that felt big enough because our apartment was already so big! All of the houses I looked at were rowhouses, and the ones that are 1100-1200 square feet felt super small since my apartment is so big. Plus my apartment''s all on one floor so it feels more open. Okay, rambling over! But I love old houses and apartments!

, I finally sourced the chrome taps and they were delivered last week. I was quoted €36 euro a pair inc vat and finally got them for €12 inc vat! Bargain.

Nothing interesting to report on the house yet, 1st fix electrical and 1st fix plumbing done. External plaster almost finished and internal plastering will be the thing to hold us up at the moment unless we can get a team in. Still hoping for Christmas in the house. Thanks for asking!

Sorry to threadjack,

Ohhh, I just love these rads; you are so lucky to be getting them. I understand there is ''radiator'' paint and you might have to strip to repaint rather than just add another layer of paint ontop of what is already there but it will be so worth any effort. I love the gunmetal look (although mine are white - purely to save money) so would encourage a metal look paint if you are looking for suggestions!
