I also work (and attend school) in Bellevue. There are some great neighborhoods, but the cost of living there is just too much.
There are some lower cost of living places (not cheap, but better than Bellevue) right around Bellevue that are great if you like suburb or even a bit further out is more country.
For the true "city people", Seattle does have some great areas to live. I know some people in a couple of neighborhoods there and they really seem to enjoy where they are.

We have a number of empty-nester couples who've moved from the Eastside and bought houses in our neighborhood and love it. It's just a completely different experience living right in the city. And I swear it rains more in Bellevue. I don't know how many times it's pouring when I leave the office then I drive across the bridge and everything is dry. Must be something about the lake.
