...where would you live and why?

If money wasn’t an issue, immigration restrictions weren’t issues, moving hassles were magically nonexistent?

Americans, would you stay in the USA? Why or why not?

Folks in other countries, would you stay where you are? If not, where would you move?

That's a tough one. I would have to pick somewhere with even better healthcare than Canada. Someplace on the water too. Could be UK or nordic countries or Australia? I could dream. These would never happen.
 
@lyra Canada would be in my top three!

If I could snap my fingers and live there, New Zealand, or in Switzerland I would say “Adios America, adios Chicago!”

There are too many problems in the United States generally and in Illinois particularly. Sadly I fear it’s only going to get worse. I’m starting to lose sleep over everything. That’s all I’ll say about that. :silenced:

If I could pick any city to live in, I’d likely pick Zurich. I know it’s a little more commercial than some other Swiss cities, but it’s centrally located to gorgeous Swiss resort towns and to the rest of western Europe, it’s on a beautiful lake with beautiful swans, and it’s very safe. I loved visiting there and could have stayed forever.

I am very happy to stay where I am.

If money is no object, then I may buy a plot of land near where I am living now, and build my own house according to my own designs and specifications.

Otherwise I have not planned to move again.

i'd like to live in switzerland as the quality of life, i undersand, is exceptionally high. unfortunately, there isn't a coastal community. i prefer to be reside by the coast. but still might be worth a try ...

so that leaves the southern coast of france. a nice manor house or petit chateau on several acres. in the southern region of france, with a nice temperate climate and gardening zone much like southern california
 
I would also stay where I am. You can reach the beach or the mountains within an hour. Little to no beasties (except midgies). Mind you, the sun could shine a bit more and it could be a bit less freezin'.

I too am happy where I am, surrounded by open countryside here in the UK. I can reach a beach easily enough & i love mountains & lakes - regular breaks to North Wales are a given for us & happen 2 or 3 times a year (Covid permitting).

I lived in New Zealand for a few years & whilst it will always hold my heart, I love the convenience of travel from the UK. I also love the fact that we have 'proper' seasons here, with very cold winters, wet & windy springs & autumns, and hot lovely summers.
 
I’ve traveled a lot and it’s hard to find a place that has everything Sydney Australia has. We are very lucky here. But I would click my fingers and give it all up tomorrow to live on an island in Vanuatu.
They truly are the happiest people in the world - as they live in the most wonderful place. ❤️
 
Monterey, CA. To me, it's just one of the most beautiful places in the world. As much as I have loved traveling all over the world, and my husband and I are seriously thinking about retiring in Portugal one day, I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to leave the US. There's just something about the diversity of culture in the US that's hard to find elsewhere.

There's no one specific place. If we were multimillionaires who could afford rebuilding all the time after hurricanes I would move back to Key West. I didn't realize how much I loved it there until I was forced to move.

Other than that i would just love to move to Scotland because our families are from there. Germany too would be an amazing option too since I was born there.
 
No Sleep till Brooklyn! is where I would be.
 
Hola, my great grandfather emigrated to the USA in the 1870s from Ireland, he was not from Dingle, BUT he bought a lot of land and created a farm that he called Dingle Ridge, he loved Dingle..

We are headed to Portugal as well ❤️ !
There is an amazing quality of life there. The food, people, culture, landscapes, art - everything is truly and deeply wonderful there.
We had a three year plan that had been detoured by COVID but we hope to be over there by 2024.
Pity it’s literally on the other side of the planet for us. My husband has lots of family there - but it’s three flights 24hrs-30hrs flying to get there. Changing hemispheres etc - the jet lag is real.
So when we go we go for 8-9weeks minimum.
We used to go every couple of years but it’s become really hard to cover costs here at home and the holiday as it’s so expensive to live in Sydney.
Two week cruises to the pacific islands became the easier alternative (and you don’t come back feeling exhausted).

sorry to ramble on - I miss Portugal..... and holidays.... and cruising.... *sigh*
 
Right here on the northeast coast of the US ::)

For all that we’re in political quagmire... New England winters have inspired Christmas postcard paintings for as long as Christmas postcard paintings have existed. New England autumns, crisp and golden - the leaf piles we rake up every year are the sorts of leaf piles that mittened and bonneted children always jumped into in my storybooks. Mid Atlantic summers - thunderstorms that I open all the windows for, with rain that I could listen to for hours that leaves the air smelling fresh and raw and full of promise... Northeast springs, well, grey and drab and sloshy, baby spiders everywhere - northeast springs I could do without :lol:
 
Hmmm, Stowe, VT, the English countryside, my cabin in NW Arkansas, remote Rocky mountains, anywhere cool with beautiful terrain. 4 seasons are an absolute must! There are so many places I would love to live. Born and raised a Texan but I am just not cut out for hot, humid Houston.

Oh, Yssie, boy do you make me miss it! Yes, this - all of this - how do I even try to explain to someone who hasn't been?!! Sigh...
 
I honestly don't know. I want open skies, white sandy beaches and blue green clean water. But I'm terrified of hurricanes or seeing too much ocean (can't swim, feel trapped). I live in Brooklyn now and I'm tired of the crowds and trash and dog poo everywhere :-(2
My husband wants to retire in north western Spain in the Basque region but I will be far from family. But maybe they will like visiting me (they don't like Brooklyn).
So maybe 6 months in Martinique in the winter and 6 months in northern Spain? The food will be great, but I don't speak French, Spanish or Basque so it might be lonely. I used to speak Spanish but it's rapidly leaving me. Hopefully it'll come back.
 
Right were we live.
Seriously, for me the pros of living right here far outweigh the cons.
 
central coast of california in carmel might be wonderful. hardly leaving home at all. having been born and raised in california. spent my childhood summers there

maybe greece ...

its a nice temperate climate. mediterranean cuisine. but don't know the language
 
I like where we are, Singapore is beautiful and very multicultural. Quality of living is very high -- we have a maid which makes a big difference. I can not cook or clean and have forgotten how to drive or garden. We have people who do all those things for us -- and they are really sweet, they always wave and stop to talk to me every day. It makes things a lot better. So that I have an opportunity to see my daughter every day.

I wouls possibly trade to live in brisbane though. While I dont like it as much, my family is there.

Move from CA to Montana or Florida. That's what my husband wants and I obey.
 
similar to what Kenny says all things considered home is pretty good right now

For us life isnt easy right now but its not Wanganui's fault
once our house is insulated and i have a job and Gary can see again we'll be sweet
I could not live anywhere with long bouts of humidity
I don't think id do that good in places where all the trees loose their leaves and there is no green in the winter
It would be good if we had a propper white sand beach here like we had in Dunedin where im from but the river is the wrong kind of river

Haha maybe I should qualify we dont have a private driver and cook -- we are not that rich. It is just that we take a taxi everywhere, and our maid cooks. Before we had a maid we ate at a resteraunt every night. I tried cooking a few times but always set something on fire, so I am relieved to leave it to other people who are better qualified. We are not annomalous by any means. It's just normal -- jobs here are busy and stressful and not so easy to get. So we work a lot of hours and dont do anything else for ourselves other than see our daughter.
