I don''t know what I''d do if I were you, but if it was for me in this situation, I''d get a Daussi cushion halo ring. Partly because I''m mildly obsessed with them at the moment, so any "what would you get" type question makes me think about them lol, but also because I could get a reasonable size with a lovely warm colour diamond. Then, when I could wear the 2+ct cushion again, I''d have the shank taken off the Daussi and have it turned into a pendant. Or keep it as it was and pass it on to my daughter, I suppose.

I just looked again at my favourite Daussi ring and it''s SOLD.

This was The One http://rockdiamond.com/index.php/jewelry/halo-diamond-ring-133ct-cushion-in-platinum-split-shank?PHPSESSID=bcabaea68f572a3857d48e9af9cedb53 Although there are several more I also love.
Um, did I mention that I''m mildly obsessed?! They do a three-stone halo which is very blingy but very beautiful too and I think it would make an absolutely stunning necklace when you were reunited with your e-ring.

Oh, and if you don''t happen to share my obsession and I haven''t convinced you, I''d vote for a wide pave band.

Mrs Mitchell, that ring took my breath away, literally!

I need some clarification on the terms!

If I had to only wear one diamond ring, and it had to be under $5000, I''d wear my current e-ring.

If I can only wear one diamond ring in addition to my e-ring and my wedding band, and it had to be under $5,000, I''d go with an eternity band!

lol! I need something at a price range I can either afford to lose or can insure here in China so I guess the terms were if your current e-ring had to be locked up for a couple years and you could buy whatever you wanted for under 5k (including *another* solitaire) what would you get?

I have always loved kcoursolle''s 5 stone and I love the u-prong eternity - I just like that U type of setting (though my diamond ring is a V lol) but my finger is like an 8.5 so if I got the 5 stone I would have to get seriously big rocks or look for a design that spread them out (or get a 7 stone haha). I''m not sure... no one commented on the ring I posted so I''m going to assume that''s something only I would love (and I''m okay with that

). The stones on my ring are 1.5 pointers and I definitely want something bigger than that. What is the diameter of a 10 pointer?

I voted for a 5-stone band, because I think it''s practical while traveling and something you''ll be able to wear with your e-ring in the future ... especially if you got a bezeled 5 stone! Or the gorgeous antique one that''s up on Jewels by Erica Grace right now ....

But, more secret-desire-of-my-heart-ish? I would go for a different shape. This may just be me, but I sort of crave an upgradable right hand ring. I''m too sentimental to ever upgrade my e-ring ... but I like the idea of having something I can refresh periodically, and I lust for an east-west marquise. Given an opportunity like this, I might be tempted ....

Or maybe by a ruby pear of excellent quality ... wonder if any colored stone vendors do upgrades ....

Okay, now I''m just thinking out loud ....!

Circe, I love love the 5-stone OEC band that''s on sale at Jewels by EG. I didn''t realise that the price has been reduced by almost a thousand dollars.

Sara, you should seriously check it out, it''s under $2,000 and each diamond is at least 0.3ct.

Sorry, my mistake. The 5-stones are 25cts (I, VS2), .33cts (I, SI2), .38cts (L, SI2), .36cts (H/I, SI1), .29cts (G/H, VS2-SI1).

ETA: Currently a 7.5 size

I voted for a five stone, too! But I also like the idea of getting a colored stone and setting it in a blingy pave setting.

I would get a smaller version of my THREE stone ring!

I''d get a beautiful eternity band to wear as a right hand ring.

5 stone!

Eternity or 5 stone. I''d most likely go 5 stone for that budget.

Brian Gavin Diamonds has five BG H&A ~40 pointers (J, VS2-SI1) that''d look great in a u-prong. I think 2 ctw would be a nice spread on your finger. In budget, too!

Voted for an eternity band, and thusly tied it up between eternity and 5-stone. Oops.

5-stone or eternity!!!!

Yum!

Okay - I''m bringing this thread back because I want to discuss something and it seems silly to start a new thread when most of the info is right here.... SOOOO.... Here''s my update.

A small solitaire - I''ve decided against this. I already have a diamond I want in a solitaire and I plan to eventually get a diamond for a pendant so I''ll hold off on this for that project.

A 5 stone ring - I would be leaning toward this but with my 8.5-9 fingers I would either a) have to go with really big diamonds, b) put bars or spacers of some sort between them or c) not have full finger coverage and none of those I''m interested in. I considered a 7 stone ring and I''m just kinda thinking maybe this isn''t really the way for me to go after all.

A multi-row pave band would give me the finger coverage I want and be super sparkly, but I''m concerned about durability for daily use and I''m thinking I''d like bigger diamonds. The melee on my main ring are 1.5 and they''re cute and tiny but... small.

Something unusual - I am still really liking the ring I linked to but I''m not sure it would have enough bling factor to tie me over. The stones again would have to be small like 2 pointers. I think it is very "me" but I don''t think it''ll quench this thirst.

So, in conclusion, I am leaning toward an eternity ring. The u-prong one from whiteflash to be exact - annette or something, the name escapes me. Anyway - the ring is like 3.4mm - how do you think this will be as a totally stand alone ring? I''ve seen a ton of eternity rings with solitaires and/or stacked, but I haven''t seen a lot just as a singleton.

Do you think that style will stand up to daily abuse? I''m thinking it will give me the balance I want, but I want to be reassured. I''ve never actually played with 10 point diamonds and I have absolutely no way to do so anytime soon.

I have an eternity band with 10pt diamonds. I wear it as a standalone a couple of times a week in place of my wedding set or as a rhr.

Won't you even consider the Daussi option?

eta I broke one diamond clean in half about a month after I got the ring, but it has not had any other damage or problems and I've had it for about 4 years now, regular wear.

No question! I would get the blingiest eternity band that $5000 will buy. 10 pointers at least!

I already have a 2+ carat diamond ring, but cannot wear it right now... If you could only have ONE ring and it HAD to be UNDER 5 thousand - what would you get? A small solitaire? An eternity band? something pave with lots of little sparkles? A 5 stone ring? Pick ONE thing!!
I wish I had this problem!! Ok, now off to answer your poll

The Daussi option is so much like the ring I already have - okay I don''t have a halo, but getting *another* cushion isn''t in my top 10 lol

I''m sorry!!!

I really like this one: Annette''s at WF

I voted for something different. I''d LOVE a filigree band (nothing too floral though). Kinda like an eternity but a little more spunk.

I''m not a huge fan of full eternities because I just mentally don''t like the idea of the diamonds underneath hitting things or getting muck on them when I''m handling things.

Personally, I''d go for a colored stone project to use as a RHR later on. But if I had to go diamonds only, I''d get a 3/4 bezel style eternity like Octavia''s from Brian Gavin.

Do you have to wear the eternity band alone? I think 3.5 mm is a great size, but if you wanted to add a little umfh to it, get a plain band to wear with it. That''s how I wear my sapphire eternity band. It''s a clean look.

Just an idea...

A gorgeous sapphire with baguette sidestones that could become a rhr. Regarding the eternity band, I''ve been wearing mine daily for 5 years with no problem (ritani).

I love the DNA band from Leon. Out of the original choices though, I picked eternity.

I voted eternity band. Lots of sparkle!
+1! I felt that eternity bands were better than the pave ring, since it''d be bigger sparkles!

funny that you mention that - all those years that I had no solitaire I wore my 3.5mm gold wedding band and my 3.5mm "anniversary band" (channel set) and I loved the look. I could be convinced to wear another band with it hahaha :) But I am not going to be wearing it with a solitaire - probably never will so exposed girdles and such won''t be an issue.

BTW - on the concern for stones under the finger, my current diamond ring has rubies there so I''ve already mentally become accustomed to having stones in my palm, so to speak lol

sara, I think the eternity band is a great idea. 10 pointers is a nice size but I''d worry you may feel like the ring isn''t quite wide enough to wear as a stand alone. I''ve thought about doing 10 pointers as well but really think I want more like .15''s for a good size stand alone ring. When I''ve tried on rings with .10''s they are very lovely but I seem to wish the stones were just a touch bigger. I would suggest just waiting until you can see on in person b/f you buy unless you are getting it from a company that will let you upgrade/exchange if you did decide you wanted to go larger. I do like the idea of making it a stacker though and if you wore the .10 band with another one then I think you''d have more of the look you''re looking for. Of course, it may be b/c I''ve been on this forum too long that I like 10 pointers aren''t big enough
