My partner and I talked about getting a Tiffany 3mm platinum Lucida ring, and this was the ring we both wanted me to have. He likes platinum. He doesn't like gold. I like both. As much as I like platinum, and I like it a lot, I don't like patina (I know some people do, my partner does, I just don't).
So I decided that I wanted gold and then I decided I wanted Cartier's plain 2.5mm band. To make a long story short, after a long time my partner decided that he shouldn't put his dislike of gold on me (yes!) and that the Cartier ring was the right ring for me (it is!).
So he's been very generous in listening to want I want and he wants to get me what I want and I appreciate that.
I had decided that I didn't want anything other than this ring because I thought jewelry is a luxury, there has to be some limit, wouldn't it be better to limit the sentimental value and the spending to one thing, or else where would you draw the line, and money would be better saved for the future, that kind of thing...
But Cartier has a plain bracelet (it's listed under 'Chains') that's technically for Cartier charms but is the perfect kind of quality + minimalism that I think is very discreet and I should just admit it... I would like to have them both! I think these two pieces would be awesome as a set. I can almost see the two red boxes sitting in front of me.
So I guess my question is would it be reasonable of me buy the bracelet with my own money or would that be selfish of me? On one hand, I think life's short you should have something if you want it. On the other hand, I worry that I'm being selfish because I will certainly be fortunate to have one nice piece of jewelry from Cartier let alone two which I can't possibly argue that I need.
What do you all think?
