I am posting from Maine, but this is the first time I have had use of a computer or had Internet access in several days and I may not have Internet access again during my trip. I wanted to bump this thread so that Rick Martin could see it. He usually only visits the Colored Gems forum and I don''t know if he even knows that "Hangout" exists. Would someone kindly help guide him here? He is a good soul, even if he has poor navigational skills ;-).

Just kidding, of course. He has magical skills with gemstones and a great eye for how they will look set!

HI:

Lovely sentiment Deb! I had an opal ring that I wore for years (or was that decades....), it was a wonderful! I''ll keep my eyes open.....

cheers--Sharon

Thanks for the warm thoughts, Sharon. I thought I would try to clarify what I posted earlier. I was just kidding when I made that comment about Rick Martin having "poor navigational" skills, but I wasn''t kidding about helping him to find this thread in Hangout. I told him I had posted about the ring on Pricescope, and he asked me where, since he only knew the Colored Gems forum. So I hope he finds this thread! I fear I will be unable to help him since my husband may yank me off his computer at any moment (as he has done so many times already).

This is a US government computer and everywhere I go can be (and will be) monitored. My husband has warned me not to disgrace him.

I am not yet set up to post a photograph on this Connecticut computer, but I wanted to update this thread: I gave my daughter the opal ring for her birthday and she loves it. It looks wonderful on her. Right now she is wearing it on her right hand and is wearing a far larger oval turquoise ring in a bezel setting on her left hand. The turquoise ring tends to dwarf the opal, but it looks right. I think it would look bizarre for her to be sporting a huge ring on each hand! I want her to look like (and she does look like) a lady :-).

I thank all of you for your help. It was a very successful birthday present!

I am a bit late in posting these photographs. In part that is because my daughter lost the ring within a few days of receiving it and that was very disappointing to me. In part it was because when my hard drive crashed I lost my photo editing software and I have not, yet, replaced it.

Last night I managed to edit these photos for a thread on opals in Colored Stones, however, so I thought that I should come and wrap up this thread neatly with some photographs of the finished ring.

It is possible, if not likely, that the ring will turn up in my father's house one day. We do not know how my daughter lost it, but we think that it just slipped off her finger. (It was never properly sized for her.) Unless the dog ate it, we do not think that it should have left the house. We do not think anyone would have thrown it out. If it is lost in the house, there is then at least a remote chance that it will show up one day. (I think that the chance is very remote, however.)

At any rate, the ring was beautiful and we all enjoyed it for a few days! If I ever want another opal ring made, I will definitely go to Rick Martin. I got great advice from Pricescopers when they told me about him. Until I posted here, I did not know that he existed. Now I have a great working relationship with him. Pricescope rules!

PS-I am sorry that the only photographs I have of the ring are of it on my hand, not my daughter's! Concentrate on the ring, not the hand!

Oh no! I''m sorry that it''s been lost. It''s really pretty, I hope it shows up again.

Noooooooo!!! Oh, I hope so much that the ring be found soon. It''s so, so lovely!

I''m glad you liked working with Rick - he is really great, isn''t he?! Such a beautiful ring.

Sending lots of dust that it will turn up.

Ohhhh, what a beautiful ring that is! I adore opals. If it''s any consolation, by aunt lost her wedding band for YEARS (and I do mean, YEARS). It somehow got wedged into the foot of a side table and just jammed itself in there until one day they turned the sidetable upside down and voila, there it was. It''s amazing it took them so long to find it because they are total clean-freaks and vaccuum several times a day. I have faith that her pretty ring will magically reappear someday.
