Is that a word: totaled?
Anyway, I slammed into a visitor's car. I make it a policy never to insult our visitors. I don't derisively call them tourists. I don't make fun of them for wearing Safari outfits when they're in the US and not extras in Out of Africa. For many of them, it's a once in a lifetime experience to come here and it means a lot to them. And frankly they're the lifeblood of our economy. Ok, but I'm going to break my own rule at least this once.
This idiot visitor was stopped, and I mean at a dead stop, in the middle of the road, at a place where there was no possible (none, not even any driveway, none, nothing) turn. They went about a block past where they could have turned left to go into a beach parking lot and then mysteriously decided to bring their car to a dead stop in the middle of a 45 mph road for not only no good reason, for no reason at all.
I'm not blameless because I hit them. In fact, it's all on me because I hit them. Legally, WTF if they were stopped in the middle of a road (there was no car in front of them stopped, and why would there be, either).
But morally I'm only going to say that I am 1/2 responsible. What they did was beyond idiotic. It could have gotten us all killed.
So I'm driving along, I'm not paying enough attention, but I've driven this road 10,000 times, I never thought a visitor would be parked in the road.,
Smash! All I remember is seeing the front of my car basically collapsing as if I had hit a telephone poll, feeling the impact, and instantly knowing I had just wrecked my car.
I lost it.
I couldn't stop crying for maybe it was almost five minutes. Luckily, by the time the police got there I had pulled myself together.
Nobody was hurt and everyone keeps saying that's the important thing.
Yes, that and the fact my car is a '99 and so two months ago I dropped collision.
So I'm... um, please use your imagination because I can't say the word.
