Hi everyone!

I had my first hair and make-up trial this evening. I was SO nervous about it. I'm your air-dry, ponytail, no make-up kind of gal. The only make-up item that I own is chapstick, and I did not own a blow dryer until last year (and it remains pretty much unused). And I've had really bad acne this summer -- leaving lots of dark marks from the blemishes. It's been frustrating because I'm a very healthy eater and drink nearly a gallon of water a day. I've been really embarrassed and self-conscious about it, and I just started treatment for it last month. I've been really nervous about the make-up part, hoping that they can cover it without it looking too unnatural.

Here are some pictures....what do you guys think? I really wanted a laid-back, slightly messy updo. I think the stylist achieved that goal. I'm posting one picture of myself...I'm extremely camera-shy in light of the acne issue. I like the make-up, but I think there is too much eye make-up. I may ask the make-up artist to tone it down a little. Then again, is it too much, only because to me, any make-up is a lot of make-up?

Thanks!

Hair picture #3 -- we stuck flowers in there...is that a good choice? Also, the hair will be a little bit tighter and neater (I just noticed a piece of hair hanging loose underneath)

Here''s me...you can see some of the marks on my forehead. I''m trying really hard not to stress too much about my skin.

SuLi, you look gorgeous!! You have a naturally radiant beautiful face and your acne, well I don''t see anything there.

Your hair looks great! I am partial to flowers, but wonder if you are wearing a veil or not. I like the updo and the look of it.

You''re going to be a beautful bride

Suli you are so lovely! What acne? Seriously. I love the hair. It sounds like exactly what you ordered. And personally I think the makeup is lovely just as it is. The eye makeup looks just right to me. I wouldn''t tell them to do less, but you have to feel comfortable. What lovely hair you have!

I think your hair looks beautiful! The style is so soft, and it really shows off your pretty, shiny hair.

I like your makeup a lot too. It doesn''t look too heavy to me at all, but I usually like a heavier style. I honestly think it looks very natural and complementary. As far as your skin goes, your MUA did a great job making your skin look clear and fresh. I have been suffering through treatment recently for a bad acne flare-up, and I understand how difficult it can be on your self-esteem. I try really hard to remind myself that hardly anyone notices it and that makeup does wonders, especially in front of a camera. Please don''t be shy or feel apprehensive about your skin--you really do look beautiful.

Absolute perfection! I adore your hair, and your makeup looks awesome. May I ask if you went somewhere in the DC area (hints are OK) - I want to check this place out!

Your hair is just gorgeous; it looks so healthy and shiny, and that style really flatters your hair and face. Great choice!

I also love the make-up. I think the slightly heavy eye makeup will show up well in pictures and make you look just slightly more glam than on a "normal day." It doesn''t look too heavy to me at all. Your skin looks awesome, by the way. I don''t think anyone would notice the absolutely tiny marks that I never ever would have even noticed if you hadn''t pointed them out. I''ve struggles with not so awesome skin my entire life, so I can relate, but you really do look wonderful. :)

Beautiful!!

I''m definitely taking your picture with me when it''s time for me to pick a hairstyle

Thank you all for such lovely compliments, and being so nice about my skin. I purposefully posted the one picture where you couldn''t see the dark marks too much. I''m seriously going to try and de-stress about it.

miraclesrule - I am not wearing a veil, so I think the flowers will be a nice touch. The question is, should I go with real or artificial flowers? The stylist just plucked the flowers off a vase in the reception area, and I never got to ask what kind they were. I am very flower illiterate, so I don''t know what I should go with.

krissie - I called several places, and actually went with the cheapest salon that I called (the trial cost $168 total). It''s the Red Door Salon at Pentagon City. Since we''re eloping, I felt really guilty spending a fortune.

Thanks again everyone...you''ve really made me feel much better about the whole thing.

What a small world!!

I haven''t been there in a long time. The last time I cut my hair was over a year and a half-ago. I chopped my hair off to donate to Locks of Love and as soon as I got engaged, the no cutting rule was in place since I really wanted to be able to do something with my hair. I think I''m going to chop it off again when the wedding is over.

Love the flowers and it looks beautiful!

My daughter used cheap (like super cheap) fake flowers to put in her hair. (She cut them off the really fake thick green stems). Real flowers tend to wilt very quickly once they are out of water.

If you do go with real flowers, I would consult a florist...or Gypsy

, to find out which flowers last the longest. There are some out there that last a lot time that are the right size. Personally, I like to minimize risk, so I would go with fake but beautiful. :-D

You actually look quite natural and pretty; you with panache! You really do not look too made up; I think it''s a good job of giving you a ''polished'' look without being obvious. Your hair is perfect.

You are going to be beautiful on your big day!

First of all, you''re lovely.

Red Door (Elizabeth Arden, which owns Mario Tricoci where I used work) is a great salon...good choice!!! Your MUA did a lovely job...and the acne scaring, which is your focus, is hardly noticable.

The hair is my main concern. The idea is perfectly and totally in line with what your vision is...really soft, lovely, girlish. Byt, Even if you want a more laid back, simply soft style...you still need it to last the duration of your wedding and be well constructed. You have many loose pieces in the back, fly aways, and I can clearly see bobby pins. All of which are giant no-nos when discussing formal updos. There are holes where your stylist tried to connect the front pieces to the back.

If you''re happy, thats all that matters. But please be sure to get what you''re paying for...meaning, a really strong stable updo....and that goes to the "base" (back combing, smaller sections, curling) and not 100% to the ammount of product she uses.

I think you look beautiful too! The make up is perfect - I definitely don''t think it''s too much. It may just feel that way to you because you''re not used to wearing much? But it will really shine through in the photos.

Looovvvee the hair!

So soft and pretty - especially with the flowers.

You look gorgeous, and your hair is amazing!! I love it all!!

Thank you so much for your honest assessment and eye! I don''t really know much about updos or hair in general, so your points are really helpful.

The stylist did say to me that the hair will be "finished" more on the day of the wedding -- that it will be slightly tighter and neater. I had a late appointment on Friday, so I''m thinking that she "rushed" a bit. My FI and I are eloping, so the hair and make-up is intended for the photography session that we have in the afternoon (my hair/make-up appt. for the wedding day is at noon). The photography will take about three hours, so I just need the hair to hold-up at least that long.

Do you have suggestions on what I should say to the stylist when I go back on the actual day?

Thanks again to everyone for the lovely compliments!

I think that you look gorgeous and I love the hair trial. Perfect.
