I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor

peering apprehensively into the kennels.

I felt her need instantly

and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly,

so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel

I blocked her view from a little accident

I had in the back of my cage.

I didn't want her to know that

I hadn't been walked today.

Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy

and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that

she wouldn't feel sad about my past.

I only have the future to look forward to

and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees

and made little kissy sounds at me.

I shoved my shoulder and side of my head

up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck;

she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw

to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright

that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.

I would promise to always be by her side.

I would promise to do everything I could

to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate

that she came down my corridor.

So many more are out there

who haven't walked the corridors.

So many more to be saved.

At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Awww I''ve read this before. It''s so cute.

That seriously just gave me goosebumps. One of mine is a shelter rescue and the other off the street.

This made me cry!

Awww that almost made me cry, which is bad, because i''m sitting in class. This reminds me of my cat. I found him at a Petsmart adoption center. I was struggling with a deep depression at the time, and I can''t tell you how much comfort that fuzzy little face has given me. We both needed each other.

Here''s a picture of my baby, well he''s 18 pounds and huge, but still my baby.

That is so touching, and made me think of my boy. He was at the shelter scheduled to be euthanized b/c he was too timid, and the rescue grabbed him. He stayed there b/c they couldn''t find the just right match, and then we met him, and it has been so perfect. He''s so devoted to us. I really feel like they know when they''ve found their special matches.

That really hits home...I just adopted a new kitty yesterday. Lets just say in less than 24 hours he has brought
a lot of joy (and entertainment) into our household. I'm going to start a thread for him but I havent really
got any good shots yet. I dont want to scare him with the camera flash.

There are a ton of cats at our pound that would make lovely pets. I wish I could have more than 2 but I pretty
much had to beg my hubby for this new one.

EDIT - RFT - your kitty looks like a Turkish Van....very cute and I bet he is soft!

Awww that is precious, it makes me so happy to have my 2 rescue kitties.

RFT, it''s amazing how they heal us, isn''t it? I was going through a similar thing when I got my Lola, and it''s amazing how she helped. BF says she saved me, and I don''t think that''s an exaggeration.

This is the very first time I''ve read this. And I''ve got a lump in my throat because of it. I''m going to save it to share since this is definitely a great perspective. Thanks for sharing! I''m going to go home and hug my puppies extra hard. One of mine is a rescue.

thank you for that very sweet read

Madam, thank you for posting that.

I''ve often found that the only ones who can console me at the center of my core are my 2 puppies. They have unconditional love for me, and it''s something I never forget.

That always brings tears to my eyes when I read it.

I have 2 Dobermans in the past, and remembering their little nubs wagging back and forth so furiously when I walked by their kennels (recent potty marks hidden behind their regal bodies

) . . . my heart just melted. I miss those dogs tremendously.

My cat sat on my doorstep mewing for a full day with a very badly absessed paw. I was going through hell at the time, so he must have known I needed him as much as he needed me.

Isn't it amazing how they just seem to know? Animals are such magical things.

Love it!

*Sniff* Every animal I have ever had since I was a kid has found me. Bless my parents for letting me keep so many!

My latest baby is Lily, my rescue puppy in my avatar. She came along this year when I needed something desperately to yank me out some serious doldrums. She cracks hubby & me up so many times every day! I can''t understand why someone was bad to her.

Thanks for posting that. I hadn''t seen it.

Oh I have a lump in my throat! Our cat Bella was a stray. When I still lived w/mom and dad we were the "cat depository" I guess you''d call it. We never told people in front of dad, but we''d tell people just to bring their cats out to our house, rather than dumping them out in the middle of nowhere or taking them to the vets to be put down. One of the places I used to work, people were always dropping cats/kittens off outside, so I brought a live trap and caught a couple to take home. I brought home a cat that lived in one of the dumpsters at the packing house when I worked at the laundry there too..and my dad brought home several from there as well. They used to shoot them or put out poison, so as gruff about the cats as my dad was, if he could befriend them, he''d bring them home. The vets used to call us too, to come get the cats that might be put down otherwise. We can''t resist kitties. (there was a 3 legged cat for free in the classifieds last week and it was all I could do to resist it. poor thing.)

How timely!! My parents brought home their new adopted kitten yesterday. My mom had been feeling really lonely since their dog died last spring, so I think the kitty definitely rescued her the way the poem describes. I can''t wait to meet him next time I visit - isn''t he absolutely precious???

You made my day! Animals are gods gift to us. They really are a mirror of the unconditional love we are meant to share with one another. They have so much love and hope. I am not a religious person at all but every time I look at Bowden''s (my dog) sweet face I feet gratitude.
