This morning I was approached by one of our Senior Directors in our Marketing Finance group. They are taking on a lot more responsibilities now as their team is now global and they have opened up a new position. The position would be a lateral move (Sr. Analyst). I highly doubt there will be a pay raise associated with it as again its lateral.
I don''t know what to do/think. I love my position now (Sr. Auditor). I''ve been doing this for 3.5 years and its never been boring to me. I work with a team that I highly respect and because I''m in Audit, I have face time with so many different departments throughout the company. The work that I''ve done here has been recognized by a lot of executive team members which again is good face time. Plus, my job is extremely secure.
However, there is no current growth opportunities for me in my department. And in order to move into a manager position in the future, I will have to wait until one of our managers leaves (not for another 2 years or so). My end goal will always be audit but sometimes I wonder if I would be more marketable if I leave the department and come back in versus trying to work my way up from inside.
The pros to the new position is that I''ll be working on implementing a brand new program and working closely with our Marketing Strategy teams and with IT, so there would be opportunities with those groups in the future. I''ll also be working with a Sr. Director that has been with the company for 25 years and is highly respected. I know the team (I''ve audited them before
) and the Manager and I get along really well. She often calls me to ask questions about new policies they''re considering and what not. And I won''t have to travel anymore which is a plus since I''m having a baby now. Also, once I''m out I think I''ll be more confident in being able to bounce around Finance which will hopefully get me closer to a Manager position (and more money
).
I honestly don''t know what to do. Stay in a position I love but that may be restricting my learning/growth opportunities? Or take a leap of faith in a new position that could potentially bring on some new opportunities (or that I could totally fail at too...)?
