Have I come to the right place? :cheeky:

Ok, so we ordered my ring from Cartier today, size 56.

But now I'm not sure.

The order couldn't be shipped today because it was made too late so it's going to be processed Sunday and shipped Monday. I have time to change it if I want.

I went to Sears today. I had to walk by their jewelry counters so I decided to take a look around (all their gemstones looked very fake and all of the metalwork seemed so very thin and insubstantial, like they're making rings, pendants, etc. very thin to save money, or something, it was weird, but anyway...) and I found their wedding bands, so I decided to try one on.

First I used the ring sizer. 7.5 barely fit past my knuckle and was definitely too tight.

A 7.5 ring was the same thing so I tried on an 8.

The 8 was a little better but I was surprised at how tight even that was on my finger.

So, these are my choices.

French size 56 = 17.83 mm (US 7.5 = 7.75 mm)

or 57 = 18.15 mm (US 8 = 18.2x mm)

This is freaking me out because if I hadn't tried on these rings, I wouldn't have thought about this. I was expecting the size 56 to be a little bit loose, and now I just don't know.

I tried on the eweddingbands ring sizers (again, it was years ago) under ideal conditions- after a shower and drying off, at night, at about 60 degrees.

Please tell me those of you who have more experience with this than me, what should I do?

Cartier! You lucky guy!!!

Just one possibility - a lot of the ring sizers have real flat edges that make it harder to get the "ring" over your knuckles- no rounding or shaping at all as a real ring would. Trying on real rings in a variety of sizes might make a difference.

Good luck!

At this point I switched to real rings.

Edit to add red text- I didn't do a good job with this part.

Thanks! :))

Cartier. Well, it is nice that I can have it. I won't lie about that. But I'm not going to tell anyone and nobody is ever going to know. Except you all. :cheeky:

The rings I tried on had sharp edges. They were very thin. I don't see how they would stand up to being worn everyday. I'm pretty sure I could have bent those rings or crushed them in my hand. That might have had something to do with them not fitting.

I'm always surprised at how difficult it is to do something that should be so easy! When I had two rings custom-made for me a few years ago I checked my ring size with some sizing rings a vendor had at the state fair... and it turned out the rings were so small I could barely fit them over my finger! Both bands were custom crafted and the best the jeweler could do was to ream them out a bit - which removed her hallmark! ;(

Is it possible that the walk to the store caused your hands to swell? Since you have another day... are there some other places you can go to try on rings? Maybe even a pawn shop or something? Who knows, you might run into a place where you can get your hands waxed or something while you're out there! :wink2:

BTW if the rings you tried on had sharp edges, that could be part of the problem. I'm trusting the Cartier ring will be beauutifully finished!

Danny - so excited for you to finally get your Cartier bauble!!! Yippee!!!

My finger size seems to change with the wind direction!! Its crazy - I'm a 7.5 then I'm an 8, then I'm a 7.25.... argh! So, do you do a lot of standing/walking? gravity tends to make your hands puffier if they 'hang' a lot in your daily routine. You live in Hawaii, so are there humidity fluctuations? My hands puff like a marshmallow when I'm hot and it's humid....

For me, I'd rather go for the security of the size 8 you tried on - and as blasphemous as it sounds ---- you could always put a sizing ball in there if need be... (i know - its like I just destroyed the Mona Lisa with that suggestion!!! sorry  )

I know that comfort fit bands slid on and off much easier and fit much better then regular bands I assume the Cartier is a comfort fit band...I assume the band at Sears is not...so you might be OK or you could size up to an 8, my opinion is slightly bigger is better then slightly tight...

PS congrats on an awsome Cartier ring :D

YAY! :appl: :appl: :appl: Congrats, Danny!

I ran across these people on ebay, and they have a really extensive ring sizing chart on the bottom of their ring listings. They are in Japan and ship all over the world, so I think their chart is accurate;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-Cartier-18K-White-Gold-Paris-Ring-size-53-/261021060780?pt=Designer_Jewelry&hash=item3cc6114eac#ht_3711wt_876

They only sell tiny rings for leprechauns, though. :D I know, because I always check their listings for anything that will fit me.

Doesn't Cartier have a return policy? I'm sure it will be fine, though.

Thank you everyone! I'm a little tired right now so I'm going to make this short.

I took VRBeauty's advice and went somewhere else and did it all again.

The 7.5 was a non-starter. There's no way I could wear that. The 8.5 was loose and I liked it but all these women who were trying to help me said it was too big and I could see it falling it off if I flung my hand by accident somehow. So I decided on 8 and I changed my order.

They only have two size 57 in the country but one is on the west coast. They have to find out if it's available. If everything goes right the store will have it on Thursday or Friday and ship it to me.

I hope I like wearing this because I've never worn a ring before. If the 57 is too tight I can exchange it and I will but I'd have to be careful wearing it.
