i bought a five stone OEC band off DB a couple months ago. I had to send it to my ILs house since we were out of the country until this past Friday. I had it sized and appraised and just picked it up today. Problem. The end stone has an abrasion on the top. It's noticeable. It wasnt disclosed in the listing and it's too late now. Plus I got a great deal and figure I can replace the bad stone and still come out okay.

I need a 30ish pt OEC, not sure of mm size at present. The stones are SI1, G color. Any pointers on where to find one?

I'll do a SMTR thread after I get home amd can take decent photos. There's actually a thread around here from the original owner that had it made- if you search for OEC band it pops up. Wink made it. I dont think the stone is damaged in the photos.

I dont have an issue with the seller or expect anything from them. I bought it nearly two months ago and am actually happy with it. I just want to make it perfect now.

Edited to be more eloquent and fix typos. Got interrupted mid post.

I think that measuring the stone you want to replace is going to be very important to finding a good match since cut varies immensely with old cuts. I have two 3 mm OMCs for a 5-stone ring I'm building right now and the carat weight varies a decent amount for the same spread.

I'm sorry to hear about the abraded stone! Glad you love the piece otherwise.

Just wondering if this is too silly to be obvious -- but can the abraded stone be re polished? or re-cut by one of the fantastic PS vendors? Maybe with OEC's they can't... I'm not "in the know" about what alternatives there may be, aside from purchasing something new. If you could re-polish it - that would be great! Then you can maintain the integrity of the original ring!

....From someone who is only talking thru her hat!!!

Is it possible it was damaged during sizing? Did the appraiser note the abrasion? Just curious. I couldn't tell a thing from the pictures.

I think this is a good suggestion since G colored OECs can be somewhat difficult to find.

I was told the jeweler noticed it during sizing, though anything is possible as I didnt see it beforehand. He actually turned the stone so the the abrasion was closer to a prong and wouldnt get more damage. It was noted on the appraisal when they did it after sizing.

Im going to go this route and see what I can find out. The abrasion is on the girdle. Hopefully there is a simple enough solution out there.

Oh, sure. People get girdles polished because most OECs have very thin girdles and they can have chips. I think Gypsy is having her OEC get a little rehab, as a matter of fact. I think she sent it to Brian Gavin.

I hope repolishing works for you!

If not, find out the mm size. Carat weight on OEC's don't match up with modern cuts (size wise), so finding by measurement will be better than weight.

If you can't polish it out, I may be able to help you out with a 'lil OEC.

Seriously, y'all are the best. I am going to contact BG today and see if he can give it some love. I am leaving for Mexico for vacation on Sunday and I'm wearing this baby so I will get it loved on when I get back- either surgery for it or replacement.
