Some of you know this, but I lost my job with no warning or severance (the company folded) right before New Years and I''ve been having a really hard time finding a job since. I live in RI, and the job market here is at or above 10% and we''re leading the nation with that rate. I also work in a pretty specific industry that''s not doing well anywhere. So prospects haven''t been good.

I decided to broaden my search to include other industries and roles that my skills can transfer in to (communications, writing, editing, project management, etc). Last week I interviewed for a position at a consulting firm that I didn''t think I was going to be interested in. I walked out of the interview REALLY interested in the position and the company, but I wasn''t sure how it went. I interviewed with like 6 people that morning and they were all really hard to read. Well I heard back from HR today and they want me to come in sometime next week for second interview with one of their VPs. I''m really excited, so please, please, PLEASE send dust my way!

Much dust coming your way!!!!!!!! I''m very glad you got the second interview!!!!!

Somehow I missed all this! Sorry about your job loss (hadn''t you JUST started?) But congrats on the interview, and tons of dust headed your way!

Dust to HH, dust... not thinking that you need it because you are so obviously a go-to excellent lady, but dust headed to you through the snow tonight!

dust dust dust

Here''s the sob-story.

I''ve worked in publishing for my entire career and I love learning about different areas and roles within the industry. I was interested in learning more about sales, so I took a new job with a company that does editorial development, design, and production work for publishers. The company was well respected and had been around for 40-something years. I left a viable position for this new one because like I said, I like learning about new things and it allowed me to work from home vs commute an hour plus each way. I worked from home as an account executive for the Northeast, the company was based out of Dayton, OH. I loved the job, and I was just getting my feet under me. I had made a few sales and was really connecting well with my clients and account list.

I''d been at the company for just under two months when we received an email one afternoon at 5:05 from our CEO stating that the company was closing and everyone was terminated. No severance was offered and it was totally out of the blue. 300+ employees were left out in the cold. Some people weren''t even given the chance to clean out their desks and others were greeted with a locked door the next day if they hadn''t read their email.

We haven''t been paid for the last pay period we worked, the company owes ppl commissions and expenses (including me!) and we just learned that our medical insurance had been canceled at the beginning of December because the company hadn''t paid the premiums even though the money had been deducted. Because of the improper communication and handling of the situation people''s 401K money is in limbo as well. We''ve all had to use an email as proof of termination when filing for unemployment. Some of us haven''t even received unemployment yet because of this.

So now I''m left with no paycheck, no expense reimbursement, no unemployment, and no job. I have two months of sales exp on my resume, which is just about worthless other than showing a possible lack of commitment to my previous role (where I''d been for 3 years). Good times, good times....

Okay sob story done.

Congratulations on doing so well this far! {{{{{DUST}}}}}

ETA - that sounds a little weird after your last post! That sucks. I meant congrats doing so well and getting a second interview. I hope it all works out for you!

HH -- I''m thinking of you and hoping that the job works out for you. Just out of curiosity, what would you be doing? As Swimmer mentioned, dust will be mixed in with the snow we''re going to get tonight and tomorrow.

My husband has been out of work since Nov. 5th, and he hasn''t had one interview yet. It''s a tough time out there. That''s so exciting that you had an interview and another one coming up. I''m keeping my fingers crossed for you!

The job is interesting and one I can sort of create for myself. It''s title is Technical writer/editor, but the potential is endless for the directions I could take it.

Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you!! Tons of dust coming your way--that snow we're supposed tomorrow? Consider it dust!

ETA: I cannot believe what happened at your old company--talk about a complete shock!

lots of dust for you! I am so sorry you were hit so hard, and with no support from your previous company.

I wouldnt stress too much about the only 2 months at the previous job - i am sure the hiring company will understand once you explain it to them.

You must have made a great impression. I''m not surprised!! Lots and lots of Dust!!!
