Ok. I had to share. I am SOO happy. I had my heart set on a photographer, which 4 of my friends had at their weddings. It''s a very high end photographer here (he is one of the two major photographers that do work for Elegent Weddings etc.). His price was $7000 and I had asked my friends if it was negotiable and they said "Absolutely not" He told one of my friends "I know that if I don''t book you for that price, I will be booked with someone else". Which is absolutely true. My initial wedding budget for photos was $3000. Which is actually really decent for Montreal, you can book video and photo here for that price.
In any case, we met with him about 1 month ago, we were really honest, told Micheal we loved his work, but our budget wouldn''t allow us to book him. Even his associate team was out of our price range. At that point, he had said "Let me talk to Tally (she''s the money person) because I really want to do your wedding and we''ll see what we can do.''''At that time, I was like "ok, yeah right, knocking 100$ off the price won''t change my mind). In my head, I thought he would try to get his associate team for 100$ less.
So I basically saw NO OTHER photographer, and have been wrestling with whether or not to book the associate team for $6000. So I mentally resign that this will be the price for the associate team. Yesturday FIANCÉ meets with Tally, and I am thinking (she won''t even remember us it''s been so long). She does, pulls out a file with our names on it. In any case, Micheal (it''s her brother, and the owner) actually HAD talked to her.
Pricing....drumroll please......
$5000 for the exact same package!!! And best of all, it''s going to be Micheal and an associate! Plus he wrote down that instead of the standard 8 hour considered for a full day, he''s going to be there for 12 hours. He had told his sister we were a beautiful couple and he really wanted to do it. Maybe it''s the interracial couple thing or whatever. When we met him, I could say that I felt we really hit it off, and connected, but let''s face it, this is business. He did want Tally to ask, if he could use some of our pictures on his website (now I don''t know if that was the incentive...but honestly, I would have said yes without a price cut). They''re drawing up a contract and we''re signing on Monday. Safe to say, I want to get my name down on that paper before he changes his mind.
This is the first thing that has happened which is exactly what I want. (Ok. I know I busted my photgraphy budget....and then some...but I think it''s worth it. I don''t REALLY need a wedding dress do I
) But the man made my friends look about 100X more attractive then they are in real life.
