I have a job interview too!

So... I''ve been wanting to find a part time job for a while now. Was looking for something close to home, office/clerical...nothing too ''emotionally/mentally'' demanding, LOL (been there, done that....and with two teen sons and a husband, I need something simple!) I found the IDEAL job posting yesterday and submitted my resume...it is literally just around the corner from our subdivision, 12-18 hours a week, decent pay...and I got a call a bit ago, asking me to come in for an interview, next week! So excited!!!


And since DH is having to start his own job search, this will help a bit, if I do get it. DH just found out his local office is being closed and he/we could relocate to San Fransisco...but it would not be a good move for us right now. So he''s quite beside himself, having to start over...his was a ''dream job'' and will be difficult to find something that comes close to what he''s had. Hoping if I can find something, he will be able to as well.


Just wanted to share...seems there are a lot of PS-er job postings lately! I hope we all find the ones we want!

Today is the big day...my interview is at 11:00, then meeting DH for lunch after!

I found a great interview outfit yesterday (at a consignment store, LOL!)...but it looks really good...pleased about that, since I''ve gained a few pounds recently...I didn''t want to get something ''new'' until I lose some weight...AND get a job to pay for it, LOL.


Anyway, here goes nothing! If I get it GREAT, if not...then it just means someone else needed it MORE than I do at this moment...and something else will come along eventually.

I''m home, it went REALLY well! The office manager is SUPER nice and very warm and friendly. The job sounds like a great fit for me, hours are great too! Couldn''t have gone better! She said she will be making calls next week, so not to worry if I don''t hear from her soon. I just hope they will let me know either way!


But again, I consider it a success either way because it went so well for me personally...this was a HUGE emotional step for me.


For those of you who don''t know, I came down with "Bell''s Palsy" last Christmas Day. "BP" is damage to and a paralysis of the 7th facial nerve. While this is mostly a temporary condition, with most people fully recovering within 3 months, for some, me included, it takes many months to recover from. I had 100% paralysis on the right side of my face for 4-5 months...no blink, mouth drooped, couldn''t speak clearly, no smile, no taste buds, no ''tears'' in my eye...many things were affected. I was pretty devastated for many months and didn''t leave the house most of the winter...it was a terribly difficult time for me and my family.

Finally I had some movement starting at six months, but because it took so long for the nerve endings to come back, I also developed residual side effects, which means some of the nerve fibers grew back in the wrong place/muscles...so not all my facial muscles work how they are supposed to (my eye wants to close when I try to smile and my mouth will pull up when I try to blink, my lips can get stiff when I speak, etc.).

But now that I have some movement, I am finally able to start doing facial muscle retraining exercises to get the muscles doing the right things again. I really just started the exercises this week and could feel a difference right away...but I was nervous about the interview today...I still can''t smile fully and had always counted on a warm friendly smile to break the ice or to calm my own nerves when meeting someone new.


But I had a "good face day" today and felt like I was speaking pretty well during the interview! In fact, not only until after the interview was complete did I mention the BP...I didn''t want her to think I had a bad Botox job, due to the lip stiffness, LOL...and she said she didn''t even notice and thought I "looked just beautiful!"

So even if I don''t get the job, this day was a HUGE milestone for me and I was successful!

I hope that you get this position and think it is great that you felt comfortable during the interview; I am sure you didn''t need to share your condition with the interviewer but I can understand why you did. You are very brave and I hope you get what you want. Good luck.

And yes, I realize I probably didn''t have to share the BP info with her, but I wanted to be sure she understood what she was ''seeing'', if she noticed anything about how I spoke. It was for my benefit too, because if I didn''t get the job, I''d wonder, in the back of my mind, what she may have thought...if I was slurring because I was on drugs, or had been drinking, or had a bad Botox injections, whatever someone may think when they see someone who has difficulties speaking. And maybe she wouldn''t have decided against hiring me based on how my mouth looked, LOL...but sometimes we DO make judgments based on things we see and don''t even realize we do it! After so many months of struggling with the BP, today I finally felt like I was getting back to normal because she said she didn''t even notice it at all.

At the point I am now at in my recovery, it''s kind of like having a huge pimple on your chin...you know it''s there, you can feel it throbbing, LOL and you are SURE everyone is staring right at it...but most people don''t notice it''s there...that''s kind of how I feel right now! But I never would have applied for the job two months ago...so I know I am finally doing a lot better, physically and emotionally! It''s been a GREAT day!

I have an update...got a rejection letter yesterday in the mail.

But I am actually really fine with it...after the interview, I realized I would have had a lot of job related stress I hadn''t anticipated when I applied for the position. It was at a social services office and I was told many of the people who go for counseling are sent by the court system (after having DUI''s, arrests for drug abuse, anger issues, etc.) and are not happy to be there...the office staff catches the brunt of the client''s wrath most of the time. So while I was disappointed for about 5 minutes, I quickly realized this was just not ''my'' job and I would have been stressed out, had I gotten it and tried to MAKE it my job. My close friend put it this way,


"No offense, but I''m glad you didn''t get the job. I think it''s important right now for you to be around positive people to encourage good healing for your face!!! You are doing so well, why go backwards! God will put you down the right path for the right job!"

And I have to agree. I am off to find better things...but still totally grateful for the positive interview experience I did have.

Gosh, what a change of fortune! Perhaps you are right and getting the job would have added extra stress you do not need right now. From the snippets of information you have given it does seem that you are making great strides with your recovery and health in general. Better than that, you have a great attitude and I wish you the very best.
