Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs....

Anyone?

I don't know this genre, Gypsy, sorry! I hope that some other posters here do! Good luck having a discussion in your new thread!

Hugs,

I haven't read anything from that genre, but I may have to pick up a few books from those authors. I am in need of a good read.

Oh, yes, yes, yes!

And Seanan McGuire. If you haven't read her, and like Briggs, et al, definitely check her out.

What are you reading currently?

I've just dipped my toes into this genre; I tend to be a high fantasy and fairy tale fan so these can feel a little jarring to me, but I think I haven't found a really good one yet.

Any recommendations for breaking into the genre?

LOVE Kim Harrisson! I'm always chomping at the bit for the next Hollows book!

I haven't read the last one yet. It seemed to get some mixed reviews, so I'd be curious to hear what you thought of it if you've read it.

Tell me what to read! :) I don't know much about this genre, but I'm interested! Any recommendations?

Oh yeah! Vampires, werewolves, immortals oh my! I thought I was alone in my love of this genre on this forum, as my dd calls it "moms paranormal smutty romances" I like patricia Briggs, I have my Mercys Garage hoodie on as we speak cause dh has the air up so high! I really like Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Christeen Feehan, Jr Ward, LAurell k Hamilton, Karen Marie Moning and Kresley Cole, all good fun!

To get me started, can someone recommend a specific book?

Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire--A modern take on Faery, set in modern day San Francisco. Excellent series, a little darker in tone.

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs--The heroine of this one is not the strongest, baddest UF heroine, but she is the smartest, most loyal, and hardest to keep down. And she is a VW mechanic, what's not to love?

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews--This is set in an alternative Atlanta, and of the three series I'm listing, this is the weakest first book of a series. However, the series gets better as it goes along, and the world-building is original.

That should get you started!

Thank you! I'm going to check these out.

Thank you! I'll add them to my 'to read' list as well! Rosemary and Rue sounds like my kinda story!

Hazzah! I have only discovered this genre in the last six months or so but so far I am addicted! The main thing I love about them is that most of the time it isn't just one book, most authors write a series based on the one set of characters etc so the story just keeps on going which I really enjoy.

I just finished reading the Chess Putnam series by Stacia Kane and loved, loved, loved it! The relationship between the two main characters just kills me! I really recommend it, but I would give a caveat that I listened to it as an audiobook which made the storytelling much more effective. I think reading the book may be tricky because of the slang the author uses for some of the characters. Here is a review of the first book of the series http://www.amazon.com/Unholy-Ghosts...F8&qid=1340360603&sr=8-3&keywords=stacia+kane

Of the authors mentioned I think my favourite has to be Kresley Cole, I have to admit it can be little too raunchy for my taste but I love how funny the characters are! Quite a few LOL moments!

I have just downloaded some Patrica Briggs and Ilona Andrews to try and I will make sure to check out some of the authors mentioned here and would love if other fans could mention their favourite book or series. Love me some book recommendations!

I just started to read Ben Aaronovich's Rivers of London series. Great stuff. Highly recommend. First book is only available in hard copy, but it was totally worth buying and waiting for it to arrive (and I got it used so it was cheap). The rest are available in E-copy.

I have read the Toby Daye series though, and LOVE IT. Can't wait for the next book to come out and want to know what happens with Tybalt! Have you read her other series? InCryptid ? It's REALLY different but pretty good.

Sometimes I think I've pretty much read everything in this genre worth reading. I'll list some favorites later. But here are a few that you may NOT have read, aren't as promoted as Butcher or Andrews or Harrison but are great, IMO and worth picking up.

If you guys haven't found it and like Kate Daniels and want something with a heroine that's also kick ass I recommend the Horngate Witches series by Diana Pharaoh Francis -- Starts with Bitter Night

Also if you want something like Butcher: Alex Versus series by Benedict Jacka. Starts with Fated.

I don't know if will work for you but I'll link you (it's not personal information so it should be okay with the moderators, hopefully it is, if it isn't please delete) to my Amazon reviews and you can see what I've read/liked and what I haven't: http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A127STAZPIATM0?ie=UTF8&display=public&sort_by=MostRecentReview&page=2

SMO!!!! I'm in the middle of the latest Chess Putman book and I've gobbled up the rest but this new one... I'm stuck. She's damaged her relationship with someone I really liked and respected and who was a force of good in her life and I'm just... feeling depressed for her. Which is saying a lot considering she's a drug addict with serious issues. Have you read the last book? Does it end well-ish??? I can't bring myself to read it. I put it down and started reading something else.

OH... and if you guys like funny and lighter and have no objections to stripping ... I just started reading this series last week and I'm done with it to date and love it: Jackie Kessler it starts with Hell's Belle's. It's a bit on the PNR side but worth reading.

GYPSY! I finished book 4 a week or so ago and yes, keep going! That is all I am going to say!

I went straight from the Chess Putnam series to Kate Daniels and ZOMG I love it even more. I cann't wait for the next book to come out, I devored the first 3 and cannot wait for the fourth one.

I am writing down all of your suggestions, I feel a bit low after finishing the Kate Daniels series (well until the next one is avilable as an audiobook) and really need another good series that I can listen to.

Okay so the Ben Aaronovitch series is FULLY available in e-copy. The American version is just named Midnight Riot (for the first book) and the UK version is Rivers of London. So you can get it.

Smo, Kate Daniels is my favorite series. If you are on a let down try Iona Andew's Edge series or Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series or Eileen Wilk's Lupi series (I love the Lupi series, meaty and satisfying).

You also might like this series (get past the first 100 pages) http://www.amazon.com/Mind-Games-Disillusionists-Trilogy-Book/dp/0553592610/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1342330520&sr=1-2&keywords=disillusionist+trilogy

Thanks, Stacy, I have passed it up so far, too. Too many of the complaints in the negative reviews are things that would bug me to death.

The plot 'twists' just didn't make sense and it was all around weird. The relationship building with the characters just wasn't up to par. I'm always looking for good books and this isn't one of them..steer clear lol

I've skipped City of Bones/Infernal Devices as well. Interesting!!! And good to know I'm not alone. I sometimes wonder if I should read it, now I can feel confident not reading it.

I've read both series and I liked them
