My DH is a huge pain to shop for. He has interests that I can''t buy him stuff for- i.e., he plays the bass and guitar, and makes a lot of music... but there''s no way I could buy a guitar for him. Or, he buys stuff he needs pretty much instantly. It''s a constant struggle to find him something every year. I''d say every five years or so I find him something totally freaking amazingly cool, and the rest of the time I manage lame, or decent at best.

Anyway, one of the dealers at the antique mall I work at has been bringing in loads of jewelry, more than usual. She has always specialized in it, but she doesn''t really research it, and I think she''s been inundated with people selling stuff off. She prices, I believe, according to what she paid for it, and whether she likes an item or not, and rarely even bothers to clean jewelry, let alone accurately weigh diamonds or anything. I got a pair of matching I/J color, probably SI clarity, half carat each in her showcase over the last year, for instance. She didn''t like them- they''d been reset into plain, clunky yellow gold ''60s era four prong settings- so they were about $200. Other things are radically overpriced, but sometimes you get a killer deal.

So, I noticed this really neat looking men''s wedding band lurking at the bottom of her showcase, stuck in a box mashed up against another ring. Well, my guy''s wedding band has always been loose, so I''d kind of kept an eye out for anything his style at work. This one was *very* his style- cool black enameling, brush finished platinum, heavy, and it had some very quality looking melee set in a really unique way. At each join of the enamel grooves, a small diamond was set with the corners of the grooves holding it in as prongs. Very modern and a bit edgy, and heh, I could sneak some sparkle onto him too.

I pulled it out of the case and noticed it was really quality- very heavy, silky comfort fit, and hey... it''s marked Verragio. Best thing? Priced at $600 after my employee discount. I looked them up online, and it looks like a discontinued style but very similar ones are about $3600 new. Oh, and it''s also exactly his size. Needs a bit of polishing, but the diamonds look secure, and very well cut and white.

It''s from Verragio''s In-Gauge line. I found a pic that shows what the band and the enameling look like- just the diamonds are placed differently, not at the meets of the enamel grooves. I''ll try to get a photo of the actual band here in a bit.

That''s awesome! It looks a lot like my DH''s wedding band. I hope your DH loves it

I hope so too! If he hates it at least I can return it thru the end of the month, but I think it'll be OK. And yeah, it needs a polish, but if you're not looking thru a macro lens it's pretty good. (He's hell on rings, so I'm not sure I'll have it done actually.)

It still looks good. Maybe you could get a brushed finish put on it instead of a polish? My DH has that and it really cuts down on noticeable scratches/dings. Get it done on the part with the diamonds and keep the edges polished.

Looks great!

It looks great, I bet he''s going to love it!

I really like that. Great Find!! Doesn''t it make you feel so great when you have that perfect gift.

Nice find!

I love those kind of finds!! Congrats!!!

what a great find! I''m sure he will love it.

Great bargain and interesting ring.

Oh, well done LGK! That''s a wonderful gift.

I''m such a dork. I caved and gave it to him last night. We''re going to be travelling over xmas, and I didn''t really want to have to take nice jewelry along with unless it was firmly attached to a finger- rattling around in my purse would probably be a recipe for disaster. So, when I asked the boy if he wanted it now or later, he really really wanted it NOW.

He is absolutely thrilled to bits with it. For real. I showed him Kenny''s asscher a few weeks ago, and for the first time I think a lightbulb went off in his head like "hmmm, I wouldn''t mind wearing THAT." (And in fact he told me if I wanted to get him one for Xmas that was just FINE with him.) Well, this ring is no kenny-asscher, but it is quite intensely sparkly and there''s no question it''s a men''s ring. And I''ve caught him sneaking peeks at it to see it sparkle all evening (which, of course, any of us do when we get a new sparkly!)

It is actually larger than I thought- too big for his ring finger. But, since there''s no prying that poor beat up wedding band off his finger anyway, he''s quite pleased to put it on his right middle finger.

He did tell me I''m to find something a bit more interesting to ask for from him rather than the new feather comforter I asked for. Hmmm.
