does B.S ing over the internet makes them feel "better than" ? ...

there's a poster on the watch forum whom obviously went into an authorized Patek Philippe store and took pics of some very expensive watches then claim it was his personal collection...  i mean we are talking some where in the neighborhood of $1 million worth of watches. why would people do that?..

it is like me going into Harry Winston taking a bunch of pics with big rocks on my fingers then post it here on PS claiming it all belongs to DF...

Boredom.

I can't see how you could lie on the internet and then not lie in your day to day dealings with people. It would have to spill over into your "real" life.

Got a link? I need a laugh.

Short changed on self-esteem... Likely short changed in other areas I shouldn't mention... Which calls for building ones self up.... :errrr: Napolian Syndrome ....

Attention-seeking. Wanting to feel 'popular' - surely that sort of photo claim attracts comments and compliments.

I think they feel insecure and NEED/CRAVE the attention! hhahaa

it is fun trying on rings and taking pics but, claiming them as your own?!

Hi,

I have seen this type of behavior on the diamond forum. I think (at least those that I noticed) they are making fun of the forum.
One girl came on here twice wanting large carat diamonds after she had just bought one the previous month. Another guy recently told us he wanted a 10 ct ring after his girlfriend had lost a 40,000 diamond ring. The first girl I thought was having fun with her friends, getting a giggle together. The second example i THINK he and the girlfriend decided to say something outrageous and get a giggle or make fun of the diamond posters.

I read something on another jewelry forum where they discussed how they came here and posted riduclous things and laughed at the answers. They thought that the people here were a bunch of snobs and phonies.

Of course some just want to fit in.

There have been a few posters - on PS - who felt the need to enhance some things about themselves. Whether it was their lifestyle, their bling, their career, their education, their knowledge of all things interesting, yada, yada, yada.

One gal was fairly popular. I thought she only rubbed me the wrong way . . . until she "left".

Now I'm curious. But I'm just dense with this stuff - I never know what people are talking about :cheeky:

Guess she didn't mean me, I came back! :appl:

But then my life isn't really worth 'enhancing' anyway, I'm pretty boring. I just design nice bling sometimes. :P

Was she the one who threw her husband an OUTRAGEOUS 30th birthday party, by any chance?

There have been a handful of SMTB threads that made me wonder, as well.

Why do people lie about things on the Internet? Gosh, who knows. I know some people who do the same thing IRL, and it makes me wonder, too. I think it must be rooted in discomfort with the way their lives really are. But maybe some people are just bored!

no,she was ok.

Who knows? I'm gullible though, I almost always believe whatever someone tells me is true.

Outrageous... is in the eye of the beholder. But it does seem it was on the up and up.

Of course outrageous is in the eye of the beholder.
I didn't think she was lying, but I know a lot of PSers thought she was totally full of it. Other than that poster, I can't think of any regulars who rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

I'm without a doubt, NOT an expert, but I really enjoy learning new things from all of you, but my peeve is new posters that come on 20 posts and a month on the boards and proceed to tell members with over 10,000 posts, and the true experts that contribute to this forum that there information is wrong, outdated or unfounded.

Of course questioning the norm and what is accepted is how progress happens......but it still really grates on my nerves!

Hi DF

I don't understand why you don't call someone on the discrepancy(notice I didn't call it a lie) Just ask him if he forgot his other watch.
Don't let people think they are getting away with it. Report back.

Annette

VR I found the website I'm talking about accidently. However in the conversation I am reporting a PS vendor was on trying to defend PS-- He had to do it gently. I thought it was so typically female.

I believed the party giver because she showed us her condo, which was not this opulent structure that one might suppose.
She had her own business and sometimes you can make mucho bucks. I do remember the ruckus.

Nope, not her. Her husband would have been older; I don't think she was a cougar!!

And, no. It was probably just me she irritated. That's why I was surprised by her. . . exit. It wasn't voluntary.

Man, I always miss out on the drama. How do you know when someone gets kicked off of PS? I've never caught on to these things when they happen. :cheeky:

I didn't know until much after the fact. Whatever the drama was, I was not a witness.

I'm never around for these "moments". I always find out later.

Life got so much easier when I learned and accepted that I don't have to understand everyone and that's okay! I am sure there are people who don't understand me. Why do people lie? So many reasons. To fit in, to try to cover up their insecurities/low self-esteem, to play mind games, to gain something or not to lose something they want/need. Some people even believe their own lies. Whatever someone's reason is, it is certainly none of my business and not my job to pull the truth out of them.
