As many of you know, I recently was hired to a tenure track faculty position at a great university, which I will start in January of 2010 when I finish my maternity leave. The catch is that it is on the other side of the country, and so the relocation meant that my husband would need to find a new job. Not a fun prospect in this economy

. Unfortunately, although my husband''s present company is national, they don''t have an office in the region that we are moving to!

Well, slowly over the last few months he has been talking to people and making connections. He heard rumours through the grapevine that his company actually was looking for someone to do field work in the region where we will live, but we didn''t know how serious the possibility was because his company also has a hiring freeze right now.

Well we just found out today that his company is creating a position for him in the region where we are moving! I can''t even believe it! Not only does he not have to look for work, but the position is a promotion with higher pay and a company car!

This is just so wonderful. Now we can buy a house before we move

LOL! Yes we are! We could have been okay on just my salary, but we would have had to rent and DH certainly wouldn't have liked being unemployed!

That''s awesome! Where are you moving to?
I don''t really want to say because it would make it too easy to locate me in real life!

But it is in one of the most beautiful cities in Canada if not the world! We couldn''t be happier.

I''m not totally sure, but it will be this fall some time. We will be getting the formal offer in the next few weeks and that will be when he will negotiate start date. I know his current job wants him to stay on as long as possible, but we really want to get settled in before I start my job in January. So I am hoping mid October will work out!

Now I have to start the harrowing process of looking for a house long distance!
