A snowstorm is coming. Traditionally we have a thread about this on Pricescope, but we are too involved in politics to do our duty and freak out about snow now. Everybody should get with it and post the accumulations expected. We expect 8"-12' here in southwestern Connecticut. I received the usual automated call from the Town Police Department telling me what to do. My best friend's husband in Maine called tonight. They expect over 12", how much more we don't know. I think they are not far from MariaD. So what she gets, they get...more or less. I guess. Now will everybody, please, weigh in? Snow is supposed to start here in Connecticut at about 4:00 AM.

Deb :wavey:

I just peeked outside and every other neighbor has their snow plow mounted to a truck.

This kind of information makes me happy to be out of CT and back in California! Many of our CT friends are pretty unhappy about the amount of snow expected. I hope everyone stays warm and safe! :wavey:

You are silenced for the duration of this thread. You violated Title XIX which states that no poster who is unaffected by the storm may brag about her being in a warm, sunny place. Consider yourself red-carded. Now sit down!

WINTER Storm Warning NOW IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 8 PM EST THURSDAY...

Locations: Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Hazard types: Heavy snow.
Accumulations: Snow accumulation of 8 to 14 inches.
Timing: Snow will begin between 5 and 8 AM Thursday morning. Snow will then fall heavy at times through Thursday afternoon before tapering off to snow showers early Thursday evening.
Impacts: Hazardous travel due to snow covered roads and poor visibilities. Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour will be possible at times along with some blowing and drifting snow.
Winds: North 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

Sleeping with the windows open here tonight. :snore:

Here in central CT we are expecting 10 inches. Can't complain too much though, we haven't had a major storm yet (or blizzard) and they already cancelled school and DH doesn't have to go in to work. Plenty of food and chocolate on hand. We are ready!

On a side note we got an email that CVS is now offering curbside pickup and they emailed us a $10 off $15 coupon, came in handy for our storm chocolate supply :lickout:

East Coasters, stay safe and I hope you quickly uncover.

Gloaters: ugh. Next time you have flooding or tornados please remember this thread. These are real people posting and facing significant potential issues.

Didn't mean to gloat....Was commiserating as a former CT resident who now lives in CA. Sorry if it came across differently. I genuinely meant that I hope everyone stays safe and warm.

And I didn't hear you as gloating. I was teasing. ;)) I hate the Internet. So much explaining to do.

Not you. Your comment came across as intended.

Stay safe everyone!!!! :wavey: We seem to be having extremes of weather on either side of the world we have an extreme heatwave in Australia at the moment to the point it's dangerous (people collapsing & some dying from the heat literally) and bushfires, both natural and those being started by idiots.

Arkieb, I have been thinking of you and I hope everyone is safe and things are getting better. I am so sorry about all the extremes and the bush fires near you. Sending lots of good thoughts your way.

I wasn't meaning to gloat either; sorry if it was perceived that way, especially as a former Yankee now living in a state that had 2" of snow shutdown civilization for 4 days  . Of course I hope everyone is safe. :wavey:

For all those affected by this snowstorm please stay safe and warm. We are predicted to get about 12" of snow right now but the forecast might change. It looks dangerous out there. Please stay inside if you can and lots of good thoughts for everyone.

So sorry, arkie. We sometimes have that in California as you may know since you follow international news. I know that not all extreme weather (and no arson) can be blamed on global warming, but I am sure that global warming does not help, either. I hate fire. Snowstorms seem more natural to me. People and animals can die in snowstorms, too, though.

Hi Jenn and missy! Everyone is up bright and early! The snow is beautiful here so far.

Hi Deb! I am stressed right now. Our back door at our home in NJ is wide open and the police cannot secure it. We are far away and my dh cannot drive there now as the roads are getting unsafe. So I am not having a good morning. The police have been in the house for over 20 minutes now with no luck. My dh is still on the phone with them and I am in the dark. Posting on PS to get my mind off it yet of course I cannot and therefore am sharing with you.

(((HUGS))) and remain safe!

Oh, missy, that's awful. I take it you do not have a handyman or neighbor you can call in New Jersey? (I know. I know. If you had had someone to call, you would have called him!) I have friends who would drive there without hesitation from here despite the weather. And both of them could fix the door, too, but that doesn't help you. I wish I could!

Keep us posted! Hugs!

OMG Missy! That's a scary, helpless feeling. Do they suspect it was blown open somehow, or that someone broke into your home? I hope they can figure out a solution quickly until you/hubby can get there. Good luck!

I should have stayed home this morning. I will leave the office past noon today.

To ALL in the path of the storm, I hope everyone is fine and safe.

Deb, thank you sweetheart and (((hugs))). Our handyman lives 45 minutes away on a good day unfortunately. Julio is our go to guy but Greg would never call him out in a snowstorm because of course safety is more important than things but of course this situation is aggravating.

The police were so nice and they talked with Greg via phone and were finally able to secure/close the door and they wrapped cord around it from the inside to hopefully prevent it from opening again during the windy storm and we are going to try getting there tomorrow to figure out a more permanent fix.

Greg said they were very respectful of the house too and wiped off the snow etc. The police in that area have always been super nice but of course (and thankfully) we have usually little interaction with them. Though this is about the 5th time they have come because the alarm company had to call them.

Deb, I think it is a sign we have to stay in NYC and not move to the beach house to retire. I am a big believer in signs LOL.

Thank you Jenn. It was not a break in and they checked all 3 floors and the basement. The wind must have blown the door open. Weird. The door was locked but somehow it got pushed open by the wind. We have fierce winds at the beach. We have to figure out a different lock for that big door. It was scary seeing the police come in yelling *name of town* POLICE repeatedly as they went into the house. We watched the whole thing on our security cameras inside the house. It was surreal.

Thank you so much for listening and now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Everyone please stay safe from the storm and hope you enjoy the day snuggling inside with your loved ones fur babies included or having fun (safely) playing outside in the snow! :wavey:

Thank you for the follow-up report, missy. It sounds as if everything worked out as well as it could have under the circumstances. Your beach house sounds exquisite, by the way! Three floors! Wow! I hope everything reamains as it is. I suspect it will. No one will want to go out in this weather. It is snowing fiercely here now! I wish I weren't on the Atkins diet; I would drink hot cocoa! Would someone else drink some for me?

I really want you to be able to enjoy some delicious Hot Chocolate Deb! You deserve it!

Missy, that sounds terrifying but I'm glad it wasn't a break in!

In Southeast PA we're expecting 8-12 inches of snow. It's really windy as well so hopefully no power outages. It was sunny and 64 here yesterday. We soaked up every last second of the beautiful day!

Puppmom, thanks! And re the weather I know! It was in the 60s here yesterday and it felt like spring and now look at the blizzard. Windchill has got to be in the teens right now. Crazy dramatic weather change in less than 24 hours. :errrr:

I am sending strong NO POWER OUTAGES vibes everyone's way. Being stuck inside can be sort of nice but only if we can keep our power and internet going. I know I am a huge internet junkie. When the internet is down I am not pleasant to be around. :cheeky:

Glad it doesn't appear to have been a break-in; it's one thing to feel 'violated' by mother nature; another thing entirely by 'human' kind. My former boss (now close/personal friend) has an ocean-front, 3 story house at the beach; we've been down there a few times and the winds off the ocean (coupled with - in your case a major weather event) really can be brutal. I wonder if your door blowing open was possibly a pressure issue. I'm no scientist, but with tornadoes, I always hear 'open your windows' to keep pressure from building up inside the home. Between the ocean winds, storm rolling in, and your home (it sounds like) being closed up tight as a tick ... that may have contributed to the door issue. Just a hypothesis.

Either way, very glad you, hubs & your furballs are all safe; that's most important. :wavey:

My dh said that was exactly what it was. Nice going you two. I had no idea. The lock just could not hold against the pressure. Maybe opening the windows a crack would help. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jenn.

Sorry to monopolize this thread. :!:

For those living in the path of the storm, please share pictures of the pretty white powdery stuff. While I love living in the mid-Atlantic, I do miss the sight/view of a beautiful, heavy snowfall; the news just shows snowplows on side roads lined with cars. :shifty: :wavey:

I don't know how often you go down or have someone (physically) go inside to check on it for you, but probably just having someone go in/open & close the door once a week, or just before a major 'weather' event would release some of that pressure. Leaving windows even slightly cracked open for a long period of time can introduce a host of issues (bats, bugs, moisture, etc) to deal with. :errrr:
