HTC Hero or Palm Pres?

I''m in the market for a new phone and I''ve narrowed things down to the Palm Pres or the HTC Hero (I use Sprint). I''m going to check out the new HTC Evo, but it''s first gen and it might be more phone than I need. Does anyone have any input or information into the Pres or Hero?

I use the HTC pro-touch 2 and have been enjoying it. HTC seems to make some pretty good phones.

It looks like it doesn''t have a QWERTY keyboard.

The only time I''ve used the QWERTY physical keyboard on mine was when something kept rejecting my password. Turned out to be on their end and not the touch screen keypad. Other than that, I haven''t used it and wouldn''t really miss it if it was gone.

The battery on my HTC Pro Touch 2 will last for several days off the charger if you aren''t using it otherwise it is good for anywhere from 4-10 hours+ (depending on what you are using and how much). The extra charger I bought hasn''t been used as much as I expected, but it has come in handy a few times.

I''m not familiar with the Palm Pres and didn''t see it on Consumer Reports. I do know that some people don''t like the Palm OS but I think that is just personal preference. (I haven''t used the Palm OS so am basing this on what I''ve heard others say)


The CR article I just analyzed for my technical writing class said that almost any phone/smart-phone out there is good enough. It just comes down to what features matter the most to each person. (I will add that I didn''t think I cared about a camera in the phone at all but now that I have one I like it and it has actually been helpful)

I tried both these phones. I started out with the Hero and had problems with it. It didn''t work the way it was supposed to. I had previously had a Palm Treo, and I liked it, but linking to the internet was difficult. I
switched to the Pre and I like it. I was used to the features of the palm operating system. I really wanted the Memo feature, I use it continually, and I couldn''t find one for the Hero that was even similar.
Anything I want to remember I list in Memo, it really comes in handy for the odd things you want to keep track of: like books to read, sizes of clothes and shoes for family, product numbers, that kind of thing.

I found after getting the Hero, that although they had great apps available, I wouldn''t use a lot of them. I wanted the things I used a lot to be easy and accessible. The pre gave me both those things.

The operating system for the Pre is not the same OS system as older palm phones. It does link and sync all my email accounts really well and notifications are on the bottom of the screen. It still has a blinking light as well.

We also have Sprint.

HH, I have the HTC Hero and I LOVE IT!!!

I considered the Pre when I got my Hero back in February, and after researching both phones carefully, I decided on the Hero. The Pre seemed harder to use and more cheaply made. Also, I love the fact that the Hero is an Android phone (the Pre was not). I''ve been VERY happy with my Hero, and I still love it four months later, which is impressive because I''m usually very fickle when it comes to electronics! LOL!
