I saw this fire-engine red Choo bag, Ramona I think it's called, at an amazing 80% discount in the shop and couldn't resist buying it (I bought it for approx USD400). There's a scrach on the flap that I knew before I purchased it. It's not too noticeable but you can still see it if you look a bit longer than a minute or two. I'd like to have it covered or at least make it blend in a little bit better with the bag. I was thinking of buying some red shoe/leather polish and put it on the scratch, but my DH thought it was a bad idea, as the polish may impart its colour onto other items (like my clothes) when I'm carrying it. Also he said that the dye on the bag is of high quality and I may ruin the bag by just putting any kind of polish on it.

So, what shall I do? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Lorelei,

I don't know what it's called, but I know it's not patent or crocodile. I think it's the same bag that Bee bought except that mine is in red and on mine, the leather is tad more shiny (or maybe it's just the pic):

Ok, its always a risk with these things but you could either use the bag as you will probably get more scratches anyway and they along with this one might blend over time into a patina, or you could try a little polish in an inconspicuous area to see how it works with the leather but like I say this can be risky. I would probably be inclined to leave it or you could try a little neutral polish to see if that helps.

I think I might try a little neutral polish, perhaps on the strap to see, or I might, just as you''ve suggested, leave it as it is.

Thank you, friend.

why not take it to your shoe repair shop? the place i use takes care of things like this. they probably can use a dye.

I wouldn''t use dye...I would just try leather conditioner first! If it''s just a scratch leather conditioner can often buff it out very easily.

This is what I do for my deeper scratches on my handbags and shoes.

For lighter scratches I use Appleguard Leather Conditioner. I don''t know about using a colored polish - it might distort the color of that area and you might then have to polish the whole bag.

P.S. that was a great deal - that bag is lovely!

when dealing will this grade of bag go to the professional to care for it...I would just enjoy the bag as is if the scratch is small...as you wear it it will get more scratches...why put extra money into taking out one small scratch when it will have several over the life of the bag.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind suggestions. I think I will try neutral polish and/ or leather conditioner on a small corner of the strap and see how that goes. If it doesn''t work, I will just leave it alone.
