Haha this is good! Reminds me a little of when, in the feminine product aisle in walmart, a man turned to me with an embarassed look and said, I'm sorry, which ones are the overnight pads? I think that was about 10 years ago, so before EVERYONE had cell phones all the time.

Am I the only one who finds that just a little bit sad rather than funny? They really don't know what food to buy for their own child? I can't imagine my husband phoning to ask what our only daughter eats, since he's 50% of her parents and already knows. Maybe these men are uncles, cousins and grandfathers. If they really are fathers and they're really phoning to ask which jar of processed food to buy, I feel sorry for them.

I once similarly helped out a new dad who had been sent to the store for pads that could stand up to the post-birth ... recovery process. He was milling around for several minutes before he asked me for help. He was a little dazed by the questions I asked, so I just made some assumptions, grabbed the heaviest-duty overnight pads, and sent him on his way. He was so grateful, it was adorable.

Sometimes, it's not what you would think. My husband wouldn't know what processed baby food to buy because he used to make most of the food himself from scratch using a food mill. He wouldn't know what would be healthy enough if it was processed . I told him to get the food with the most calories.

I buy baby food that says "Gerber's Vanilla Pudding". Am I doing it wrong?

Oh, I wouldn't judge them so harshly, there are so many different brands and kinds that it is easy to be overwhelmed. And unless you are the one feeding the baby, they go through all different stages of likes/dislikes, and wanting to rotate what they are eating. I'm sure I've had conversations during my baby time giving him the rundown "well she used to love the peas but now is spitting them up so get squash, sweet potato and oh yeah instead of bananas get some prunes..."

My mom did not have this problem with me as a kid because I refused to eat baby food, but voraciously ate real food. As my mom said, just waiting for the "real" thing!
