Wedding how many parties is too much ???

How many of you ladies are having engagement parties, bachlorette parties, bridal showers, and stag and doe''s?

Can someone please explain to me what the point of a bridal shower and stag and doe is? I am debating whether or not to have one.... Originally I was thinking no but if it''s standard and expected - maybe I should???

I don''t plan on having any parties before the wedding with the exception of an engagement party that my FMIL wants to throw.

However, I want to have like 8 parties after LOL

we didn''t have an engagement party or anything, but we are having 2 showers, a bachelorette party and a bachelor party (separately). i''m having the shower and bachelorette party because my aunt and sister insisted, and i didn''t really feel compelled to refuse! (the second shower is going to be thrown by my FMIL for me and my FI together, but it''s going to be just a few people, like 10). we also might get our friends together for a bowling night or something, but it won''t be a party, just a get together

I didn''t have an engagement party, nor did my husband and I have a traditional bachelor or bachelorette party. Instead, the night before the wedding, after our rehearsal dinner, we met friends and family at the pub at our hotel and just hung out.

I would assume, like fiery, that a stag/doe is the same thing as the bachelor and bachelorette parties. I think a doe is the same thing as a hen party, also.

I did have a bridal shower...were you asking what happens at a shower? They''re usually given/hosted by the bridal party (or a family friend, etc.) and guests bring gifts to "shower" upon the happy couple (well, bride, typically). People ooh and aah over gifts while the bride opens them, food is served, and silly games may or may not be played.

I''ve said here before that although many girls have said they didn''t want a shower, one is usually thrown by someone who feels the need to do something to honor (?) the soon to be bride and groom. If you really don''t want one, you may need to be firm about that when talking to family members and/or your bridal party.

I''m not having any of that hoop-la. My SIL really wants to throw us a ''jack and jill'', so we might just have a simple dinner/cocktail party with all our close friends and thats about it. I''m also not going to call it that, it''ll just be a pre-wedding get-together because I dont want people bringing gifts etc.

Yeah, I too thought that Stag & Doe, Hen Party, Jack & Jill, Bachelor/-ette parties were all the same things.

You can google any of these names for parties to find a definition of what they are.

To answer your first question, by our wedding day we will have had the following wedding-related events:

•Un-official engagement party: dinner with 10 friends, no gifts, not a formal thing at all... we eat with these people several times per month so it didn't feel like any to-do really
•Wedding shower: I didn't really want one but MOH insisted, it was more of an informal get-together than a classic "shower"
•Bachelor/-ette weekend: combined co-ed Vegas getaway with all our mutual friends
•Rehearsal dinner: informal cook-out

It hasn't felt like "too much," partly because we had very little to do with planning all of these things (minus the rehearsal dinner, of course) and partly because it's been spread out over 19 months. If I/we had been initiating or expecting these parties, I'd probably feel like we were imposing upon our friends/family in asking them to participate in so much for us.
