Happy New Year to those of you who will be celebrating! Best wishes for a healthy, successful new year!

祝您恭喜發財, 年年有餘, 歲歲平安, 大吉大利!!

I taught DD to say "gong hei fat choy", but she follows it with "where's money?". We had to laugh. We are trying to correct that.

haha, thats so cute!

DH and I are celebrating by getting take out from our favorite chinese place. Not a big celebration, but it's too cold out there for me to want to go out!

It's cute only because she is 2.5.

I don't celebrate ANY of the new years.
I don't understand why it's something to celebrate.

By virtue of the fact that there are so many calendars it is clear that no one date has any magical significance.

who cares about significance? it's all about the FOOD! and red envelopes! (well, not anymore for me...)

Cyber toast to you all for a prosperous New Year! :praise:

:wavey: ...GUNG HAY FAT CHOY to all PSer... :!: :!:

For me, lunar new year is about cultures and traditions. There are a lot of traditions that are done preparing for the new year. It's also a time for family, much like thanksgiving and Christmas.

Wishing everyone a prosperous new year.

gramma says, "you big girl, you work now, you give me money!"

LOL FK. We still get some from our parents, grandmas and aunts.

hmm... different custom...
If I am back home I will still be getting the red packets because I am still not married. I will be the oldest in my extended family...

when my grandma was alive she always wanted me to bring her some "chinese booze" (105 PROOF) :knockout: :knockout: she pass out red envelopes to all family members.

Oh, thanks for the reminder! Our youngest daughter is Chinese and we usually go out to eat to celebrate! (It's a good excuse to go to our favorite Chinese buffet, anyway!)

Happy new year!!!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

I loved Chinese New Year when we were living in Singapore. I really miss it! I hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous new year!

I learned guo nian hao. I am the giver of hong bao.... Except I went non traditional and got jin bao! We are having jiaozi tonight and Friday going to watch the fireworks and in 2 weeks going to see more for lantern festival. Went to haerbin the weekend before last and we are ready to settle in for the rest of the week. Ayi is off for 8 more days and driver is taking 2. Fri will be fun, got a hotel downtown same as last year... Going to spend the day playing mahjong then bundling up for the COLD!

I told my ayi: wo mei you hong bao.... She said mei guan xi... Then I grinned and said wo you jin bao! And she laughed, almost cried silly woman :)

Chúc mừng năm mới!

We don't really celebrate Tet, other than having pho for supper. :))

Happy New Year!!

I don't celebrate but DH does - so we're heading out Saturday with friends. :)

I was informed if you are married, you hand out red pockets to single friends.

My husband is out of town, and I'm pretty non-traditional, so we had fish and chips for dinner.... but I did skype my parents (in Taiwan) with my kids. I taught my kids to say Shin Nian Kwai luh! to my parents, they were tickled pink!

I also gave my kids red envelopes, but I put them under the pillow like the tooth-fairy. My kids are so totally all mixed up culturally!

We celebrated by having three tables of 10-course Chinese dinner for 30 people. This is a bit more out of the ordinary since we live in Delhi. :cheeky: And we had Peking duck for lunch at the local Hyatt. They have chefs from Beijing so the duck was pretty good.
