How long is it before you `forget` a thread?

Just curious!

After I reply to a "help me, please!" type thread, I go back and check in to see if they've replied to what I said, asked for clarification or more advice, etc. I just ran across such a thread that I'd forgotten about, because the OP took about 4 days to come back and post again. His question to me went unanswered because, after a couple of days, I stopped going back to "check" if he had more questions.

So I felt bad, and then realized that 2 days or so must be my threshold for "forgetting" a thread. I'll post a response, check back every now and then for a couple of days, and then it's out of my mind. But most people don't treat forums that way... they'll come to a new place, post a question, then check back a few days or even a week later to read all the responses. At least, that's what I do in forums other than PS, because if I'm not a "regular," I'll forget to check back until a few days have passed.

Anyway, how about you? How long is it before you don't "check in" on a thread anymore?

I''m probably the same, a couple of days. I make the rounds, so it''s hard to remember everything. That, and I have a terrible memory...

Musey, we all can have those moments.

You can ask to get am email each time someone responds to a thread. Could be a pain but is one way to be on top of things.

I usually only go back to the second page, unless I''m looking for something specific. As soon as it gets as far back as the third page, I kind of figure it''s not active anymore. I might miss out on things because of this, but I''ve only got so much time...

I used to do that, but it hasn't been working for me for a few months. Not sure why! Maybe something to do with the other Mac conflicts with idealbb.

I dunno, part of me wishes that people looking for help wouldn't ask a question and then disappear! But of course, not everyone would think of a forum thread as a "conversation" the way I tend to.

Safari causes issues, so maybe that is it? I have to post in Firefox since I cannot in Safari any more.

Yep, I only use firefox for that very reason. Maybe the email problem is on the gmail end, then

I should look into it.

I only check the first page of each forum.

I''m horrible...sometimes less than 24 ours. Out of sight, out of mind

I don't track which thread I posted in.
There are too many of them on any given day.
I check the first page and in RT the second from time too time.
It depends too on how fast the board is moving at the time and when the last time I checked was.
When I'm here every hour or so I never go past the first page.

I "subscribe" to the threads I''m interested in, and especially those where I''ve posted an opinion. It sounds kind of organized, but some mornings, when I log in I have over 50 messages in my Inbox. A tad overwhelming to say the least. When I see a number like that, I just skim over quite a few.

I can''t remember every thread I''ve posted on. I check the first page of a thread for a memory jog, but it doesn''t always work. I need an upgrade to my memory bank, but I don''t see that happening any time soon

I have often wondered about this, too, especially when a question has been asked that needed a response, etc...

Like Isaku, I also "subscribe" to the threads that interest me as well as the ones I am partaking in.

I agree the emails can get out of hand, but I delete all but the very first of each topic that I received, and then when I have time, I go through them later. I do, however, go back through and see if someone responded to something and try to respond accordingly within a day or two.

If I didn''t have the emails sent to me, I would have no clue where the replies I would like to see are, and that would drive me crazy! (I''m an anal person that way, I guess!)

musey, sometimes I forget I even started a thread...that''s how bad my memory is!

I go through phases and post a lot in like an hour and then sometimes I check back throughout that same day, but after that, unless I click "check all posts" I forget half of the ones I posted to.

I'm so bad. So anyone who thinks I'm ignoring them, I swear I'm not, I just forget where I post to!!

I only check the first page of every forum too, which makes it even worse.

I go through phases too and sometimes I''m so good at checking and other times I just totally forget. I should really start tracking the posts I''m interested in.

i usually forget which threads i posted in or responded to about 10 minutes after I post

. it never really seems to make it past working memory.

but then again, it is sorta fun to go back a few hours later or whatever and check all the threads and have little surprises in the form of responses to my posts/responses!

I''ll remember a thread, want to have a look at it and then I can''t find it!

And that goes for my own threads! LOL!

Maybe I should try out the "Track this topic via email" feature.

I guess I''m weird, because I check on threads in a totally different way than most of you!

I click on the "find all posts" button under my avatar, and usually just look at the first (sometimes second) page. So if I''m going through a post-a-lot phase, I''ll "lose" threads quickly.

I almost never look for threads I''ve posted in by just going to the forum page, because I''d never find them that way (I have a skimming problem).

It depends on what''s happening in my life. There are weeks that I''m hardly on the internet and by the time I return to internet life I''ve forgotten anything and everything.
