Wedding How early can you order invites?

I chose my invitations a few months ago but I haven't ordered them yet because my wedding is in June. My mother said she would buy them as my Christmas gift which means that they would arrive sometime in January. Is that still to early to have the invites sitting around?

We plan on mailing them out mid April so people will have a full month before they have to send in the RSVP card. The only thing I guess I'm worried about is that the paper could yellow or something. Would this happen in four months time or am I just worrying to much? Your own experiences are greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

I think you should be fine...I know people who have had them over a year in advance with no problem whatsoever. If you''re concerned, maybe try to store them in a cool, dry place in an air-tight container or ask the vendor you are buying them from what they recommend. Hope that helps!

I ordered mine about 6 months before the wedding because it took a while to assemble and address them. But don''t order them until you know that the place, date, and time WON''T be changing. Think about all the inserts you want because you''ll want to print them at the same time. And make sure you have somewhere to store them out of direct sunlight, because the boxes will be bigger than you think! Also go through them as SOON as you receive them... count all the pieces to be sure you have everything you ordered. And look closely at the text to be sure it''s what you wanted!

And yes, I speak from experience.... My order came in 3 gigantic boxes. They forgot to send me the outside vellum wrap, which they quickly replaced as soon as I mentioned it. They misprinted my invitation TWICE and had to redo them. And, though I didn''t find out until later, they shorted me on RSVP envelopes. So go through your order as soon as you get it!

thanks for the advice! i wasn''t sure how long it took before paper yellowed or how to store them. thankfully everything for the wedding is booked and not changing. i will make sure to check everything when they come. thankfully, i only have to order invites and response cards since my reception is immediately following the ceremony. and it will be a good idea to give myself plenty of time to get all of the addresses right.


oh i have another invite question. we are working with a pretty small budget for a NY wedding. well, we''re on LI not in the city so it''s not as bad but still, it''s a much smaller budget than most. we really need to keep our guest list to 125 or less to stay on budget. for guests who are single, do you have to give them an option to bring a guest? I read in the knot that you should only if they have been dating someone in which case you would send the invite to both of them, but if it''s just a single friend or in my FI''s case a cousin who has a tendency to "date" strippers (i know, i know!), do i have to include & guest on the invite??? i really want my wedding to include people that we know are care about, not necessarily their "buddy" of the moment.

I can only have 120 max - anyone who just ''turned up'' would have to go and eat in another room so no possibility of squeezing extras in.

My rule is: married, engaged, or living together for over a year.

Good to know I''m not the only one who thinks that! My mother thought I was being crazy but then I explained it to her with the budget and all, and then I casually mentioned that it would be fine if she didn''t mind paying for the "overflow" and that zipped her mouth pretty quick, lol. We do have a few friends in LTR''s whose SO''s we would invite but most of them are single 20ish people, and I don''t want their 20ish "dates" at my wedding. It''ll all come together, it''s just a matter of time at this point.
