warts are caused by viruses. You pick them up by contact with people who carry the wart virus (HPV). You don''t have to have open skin and they don''t have to have an active wart.
There are many different treatments, some mild, some more extreme. My dad swears by massaging Noxema cream into the spot 2-3 times/day. Other people apply duct tape to it. The most effective treatment is to burn/freeze them off or apply a strong topical salicylic acid product.
Thanks MustangGal- Good to know, Im starting on it tonight...Date: 5/26/2009 2:25:23 PM

Ugh, they''re annoying buggers, aren''t they! I found a smallish one on my arm a couple weeks ago that just didn''t want to go away. According to DH I was the only one who actually noticed it but indeed I did! I was looking at it all the time and it drove me nuts! My doctor gave me some cream that looks like whitening and immune stimulators (turns out warts were indicative of a weakened immune system.) It''s basically gone now. Maybe you have to visit your dermatologist too and see what he recommends?
How long did you use the duct tape? It took a month for my son. I know that seems like a long time. . .luckily it was on his hand and we just cut out a fresh little square of tape every morning and eventually it vanished.Date: 5/27/2009 1:03:19 PM

Duct tape didn''t work for me. I found these OTC bandaids that had some ointment already on them and my wart was gone in about 2 days.
I had a plantar wart on the bottom of my foot. . .near my heel and every time I stepped down, it felt like I was stepping on a pin! That was the only time I ever went to a foot doctor. He was kind of creepy! lolDate: 5/29/2009 6:52:41 PM
