warts are caused by viruses. You pick them up by contact with people who carry the wart virus (HPV). You don''t have to have open skin and they don''t have to have an active wart.

There are many different treatments, some mild, some more extreme. My dad swears by massaging Noxema cream into the spot 2-3 times/day. Other people apply duct tape to it. The most effective treatment is to burn/freeze them off or apply a strong topical salicylic acid product.

thanks HH- I''ll try the duct tape, since I have it readily available right now, and see what happens....

My DH did the duct tape thing, it took several weeks, but it did work!

The freeze stuff HURTS! According to my doctor it takes about 4 years for those suckers to go away. NAH.....place some polish remover in a glass dish, dip your nuckle in there for 4-5 minutes, repeat if necessary, rinse. Gone in a couple of days.
PS: If you see a black dot in the middle, do NOT remove, it will bleed bc is deep. Soak again. Good Luck!

Thanks Camille,
I"m getting all these great tips!

Windex! LOL! Sorry, My Big Fat Greek Wedding was on TV recently.

I think Dr. Scholl''s has an OTC freezing solution ... If that doesn''t work, try the Windex.

Duct tape works. My son had a wart on his hand and we used duct tape and that got rid of it and it hasn't come back. The only bad part was it took a month. (Keep that in mind when using it. . .it requires patience!)

thanks brightlight, and MC, i just started the nailpolish remover solution and now onto the duct taping (I can live with a little round duct taping for the next couple of weeks- so we shall see) again thanks all!

Ugh, they''re annoying buggers, aren''t they! I found a smallish one on my arm a couple weeks ago that just didn''t want to go away. According to DH I was the only one who actually noticed it but indeed I did! I was looking at it all the time and it drove me nuts! My doctor gave me some cream that looks like whitening and immune stimulators (turns out warts were indicative of a weakened immune system.) It''s basically gone now. Maybe you have to visit your dermatologist too and see what he recommends?

Thanks Adis,
I''m going to try some home remedy first, and see how that goes, but thats interesting about the immune system. I''ve had wart plantars before on the bottom of my feet but that was 10 years ago, and I did some crazy stuff to it, not the kind of things that I could do on my sensitive knuckles.

Duct tape didn''t work for me. I found these OTC bandaids that had some ointment already on them and my wart was gone in about 2 days.

How long did you use the duct tape? It took a month for my son. I know that seems like a long time. . .luckily it was on his hand and we just cut out a fresh little square of tape every morning and eventually it vanished.

Are warts painful?

this one i have is just a little bump on my knuckle. its not painful unless I accidentally scratched it, cosmetically a nuisance to me though.. when I had wart plantars, they were bothersome on my the bottom of my toes (sorry maybe too much info?) and those one were painful when I tried to remedy it...

I had a plantar wart on the bottom of my foot. . .near my heel and every time I stepped down, it felt like I was stepping on a pin! That was the only time I ever went to a foot doctor. He was kind of creepy! lol
