I've been trying to understand this.

Googling...I read that he does take this up in his book: A Promise to Keep, but then I haven't been able to read more...like what he says.

I do understand it is a substantive part of what stopped his, I think, 88 campaign.

Without a lot of noise from what we think about it...since it's been documented...I really would like to know more about what he says of it himself. Can anyone help me on this?

(edited to add)...just to update myself...I do see this, which seems substantive. Included...even after he had previously indicated by way of explaining himself for his earlier law school indiscretions that he just didn't know the rules of attribution...he here says:

"As for the issue of borrowing speeches, Mr. Biden was insistent that he had done nothing wrong. He said it was ''ludicrous'' to expect a politician to attribute all the quotations of others, and he cited two examples to support his argument."

I must add...since this world does require a clear head in the world of foreign relations...and despite his poor college grades, he may well have this, to our benefit...I continue to be bothered by this...and can understand why detractors could with cause describe this the ticket of style over substance.

Regards,

Regards,

Thank you for bringing that to the forefront, right away, before we all go ga-ga over this ticket. Biden was certainly the wrong choice. And, I don''t think he ever has been able, in a truthful and gentlemanly fashion, to ''explain'' his lapses in good judgement and honesty. Certainly not in a convincing manner.

some more analysis...

showing the Biden the only guy in the "red" zone...

I'm interested in having someone explain why applying for a marriage license before you are even divorced from your injured first wife who stuck by you the entire time you were in a P.O.W camp so that you can leave her and marry some cutie with 100 million dollars is not pertinent to your character as a Presidential candidate - if not properly attributing a quote in a speech or in a paper he wrote in college in 1965 is so pertinent to Biden's.

We seem to be able to put a statute of limitations on certain things but not on others.

That is an interesting concept, but I would suggest that you start a *NEW* thread to discuss it since this one is designated for the discussion of Obama''s VP Biden. To answer your question, many people believe a political figure''s private/sex life does not factor into his/her ability to lead a country (i.e. many people still consider Bill Clinton a very great president), whereas plagarism with feigned ignorance during one''s own presidential campaign which ultimately causes him to leave the race altogether is considered a much bigger issue. Biden just seemed like a poor choice because of the bad things he has said about Obama in the past, the millions he has received from special interest groups (a practice Obama always criticizes), his status as a "Washington insider," & his penchant for verbal diarrhea.

I don''t believe anyone on this thread was, directly or indirectly, comparing Biden with McCain. Or choosing one over the other. No question, McCain is not a stand up guy -- at least not in all areas of his life. But I don''t think he ever lied about it, blew it off, or denied it (his daliance with Cindy before divorce), as Biden has done about concerning his plagerism. Neither one is the poster child for personal integrity. I think we can all agree on that.
