Say you buy a nice pretty diamond.. bring it to a jewler who makes the ring, and sets the diamond in.

How do you prevent the jewler from swapping your nice/expensive diamond for a similar size, similar but lesser quality stone?
i mean is there a laser engraving identification of some sort?

Yes, some diamonds have girdle inscriptions. If yours does, you can ask to be shown that.

Also, know the map of your inclusions and locate them beforehand. Ask to be shown them under magnification afterwards if you're worried.

Get certificates for your diamonds. Learn your diamond''s inclusions. Check the stone before you leave the store with a good quality loupe - ie not a $5 one.

what kind of map will show inclusions?

and what if your rock has no inclusions? (i.e. clarify IF?)

That would mean they'd have to TRADE IT OUT for another rock that was IF....unlikely to have that, and in the same weight and shape as yours....???

I wouldn't worry about it if you go to someplace reputable.
