How do you eat your wings?

@jaysonsmom this thread came about at just the right time!

I am making pho today so needed some chicken for the stock (that's the secret to good beef pho, chuck in some chicken).

I ended up buying a 2kg bag of wings. The tips and some drummettes are in the pho stock. Flats will be dredged in a seasoning mix and baked until crispy tomorrow for dinner!!!

In the USSR in 60-80th a family could buy only 1 (rarely 2) hen or rooster and have a meal or several meals made. It wasn't unusual when a child 7-10-12y.o. could only have a 1 whole wing, 3 sections of it as a main source of protein. So we learned how to get the most out of it, chewing on bones too! Hens in the USSR were no heavier than 2-3lbs each.

I prefer flats as well and I’m a number 5!

@jaysonsmom I don't even consider your reference picture a wing! Only flat parts are wing in my mind.

5. The chicken died, the least I can do is not waste. Also, #1 and 2 ought to be taken outside and severely beaten.

Ideally I'd like to be a 5, but that's assuming the wing tastes delicious. I can imagine the situation if I had a 1; it would probably be forcibly placed on my plate at a huge potluck gathering, and I might decide not to eat the rest of it if it tastes terrible to me.

4 and I prefer the flats! Just had some the other night that were yummy!

Edit
If someone in my family ate like #1 or #2, I would tell them to quit eating them. They're just not enjoying them enough in my eyes.

Save them for me!

I’m a 3-4 but on the drums only. I don’t like the tips..I push the little slivers of the chicken out and discard the rest. I love wing drums dipped in ranch dressing...:lickout:

For health/medical purposes, I've been vegan since last year. When I did eat wings, I preferred the flats. If I had to eat a drumette, it would be 5, if tender or 4-ish if tough.

Whatever I can scrape off with a knife and fork... I usually just avoid wings, the way I eat them tends to offend everyone else! I don’t pizza in public either for the same reason

I pull them off the fly with tweezers and eat them raw.

I prefer the twoers as in the middle section of a wing, given the choice.

I still remember the days when KFC offered 3 hot wings for a grand sum of 0.99 GBP in UK, happy days!

DK :))

Did someone say ribs?

This was last night's dinner:

I LOVE ribs, any ribs!

Usually on my own or with people I know well, as I can't eat ribs without getting into a mess! Got to use my hands, knife and fork just won't do!

DK :lol-2:

3, 4 if I'm starving!

I don’t, I can’t be doing fiddling with bones.

#3! I don't like tendons or fat or anything with a chewy/fatty texture. I only like the lean meat and saucy part. 8)

I never understood why anyone ate chicken wings. I like meat if I am going to eat meat. I mean, I am not a big meat eater, but if I want to have chicken, I would eat actual chicken. I might buy a rotisserie chicken if I didn't feel like cooking. (I bake chicken tenders for my dog every few days, so cooking chicken for myself isn't a major thrill.)

much prefer flats. husband gets the drumettes. i don't mess with the drums. I do register a 5, though.

My sister registers a 9, which means no DNA remaining and is now a polished natural history museum exhibit.

Gotta say though I'm impressed by the US chicken wing culture, they always look so good. Here in Australia I like to put either honey soy or a Portuguese style marinade on the chicken wings, let it soak into the chicken in the fridge for a day and then cook them over charcoal with some Hickory wood in there to add a smoky flavour. It's kinda my signature BBQ dish with my friends.

I love that you share so much culture! im fascinated! and thank you!

Well, that’s a drumstick, so not like that!

Same ... if I eat “wings” (usually don’t b/c too much work for such little bit of meat) it’s only actual ‘wings’, and they’re naked-extra crispy. I don’t like drumsticks because they’re too fatty/stringy & just kinda gross me out a bit. When I have them, they usually resemble #3 when I’m ‘done’ because I feel like I look like a rabid possum gnawing away on small prey.

Now ribs ... I cast away any concern with appearances - especially when I make them myself b/c there’s not much ‘gnawing’ ... the way I prepare & slow-cook them, the meat mostly falls right off the bone & into the mouth.
