Hello everyone, been a while since I''ve posted.

I settle on a house this Friday with my fiance. Its the first house for both of us, and the first time we will offically live together (sans shore house or college), I''m looking for ideas for a small gift more of a token to celebrate the day and occasion... only problem is I can''t think of anything good. This is where you guys come in!!!! Suggestions?

Thanks,

Sean

i picked up one of the Waterford Our New Home Ornament that has 2007 on it, the year of our first home purchase. i just checked crystalclassics.com and i didn't see that the 2008 is out yet... but it's a thought for an xmas gift later this year...

hum.. i edited my reply because what i first wrote was a gift idea for a guy... and after re-reading your post, i'm not sure which gender you are needing a gift for. this would affect my gift advice

The gift would be for the female. I like the ornament Idea.... but I''m hoping for something that means a little more in the moment. I definitely plan on a special ornament for next christmas though

what about a tiffany''s key chain for her new house key

they even make one with a little house on it, although it''s not my favorite out of the bunch.

or what about an embosser with your new address on it?

i like house key ring.. but she would be pissed if I spent that much money one a key chain... at least with the amount of money that is now missing from our bank accounts. Maybe I can find a more generic one.

Honey, the only housewarming gift any man wants is a big ol flatscreen tv! But you said "small" gift...What about a small flat screen for his office/man room? I have a fantastic 19'' Philips flatscreen in my office and it''s amazing. Mr. Surf comes in like a little puppy, whining to watch sports on my small but awesome tv. I vote for a little flatscreen. I think you can get them for under $200...

haha, surfgirl.. that was what i posted the first time around only to realize the gift needed was for a girl... and although THIS girl would have loved a flat screen... it''s not typically a girl gift.

oh goodness... my wording is terrible...but you know what i mean, right?

I love the idea of a keychain, too. I totally love the Tiffany''s, but it is really pricey for a key ring. Things Remembered has a bunch that are sterling and more affordable:

Things Remembered Antique Key

"Vapor" Keychain

Hearts

And you can engrave a special message "Welcome Home" or "To our Life Together" something like that.

Does your house have a mantel?? We received a mantel clock for our wedding and that was really special to us.

I also love the coach keychains (but I''m sooooo into coach). Is there a brand she likes that might have a keychain?

Have you done your registry yet? Something small and new for the home might be sweet (some kind of fancy serving set, coffee mugs). If she has a vase on the registry, that could be cool to buy it and have some fresh flowers waiting.

For house warming I like personalized things...but since you don''t have the same last name that might get sticky. But I will still go through my list of usual warming ideas. For security I believe you shouldn''t actually put your names...If you put Sean and Susan...the bad guys know there are only two of you...

(where ever you see **** please insert the word "door". Long story, but I now longer have that word in my vocabulary)

The idea of a **** knocker.

Floor mat. (welcome mat)

Plaque for the **** that has a favorite quote, scripture, or proverb of hers...or say...something creative like...
"Welcome to our home".

A new **** bell melody.

A new mailbox.

A better **** handle.

I do like the previous ideas of key rings...you don''t have to spend a fortune...$20 can get you some cool ones. Things remembered in most malls offer several that you can engrave with initials or her name and some have lights others have this great feature that you can clip off the house key from the car keys so if ever she valet parks...you can be assured no one gets to copy your house key. Or if you are together in one car and it is cold...you slip the house key part off of the car keys and the car remains on and heated while one of you goes inside to retrieve her lipstick she forgot on the counter. It happens.

A brass or stainless kick panel for the front ****.

New house numbers in a cool style.

You could have a potted shrub with a bow on it sitting on the porch.

Motion front porch light...so as you approach the light comes on so she won''t be in the dark.

Too technical stuff huh? Oh go by her a pair of diamond earrings. Yeah it is out of your target budget but you only move in a house once. (you better carry her over the threshold!!) I need a break. The **** ''s wore me out! §

I like personalized things too. So I immediately thought of a ****knocker.

How about a set of really nice flannel sheets (or a favorite, comfortable type that he likes-but many men like flannel) to "break in over the years". They get better and more comfortable with age and wear, and you share them together at night (etc, etc-kwim?)....nice symbol of a relationship to me....

i also like the idea of giving/planting her favorite flower or tree.

Oh, this is for a girl. I still like the sheets idea--very sexy. Like the tree a lot, too!

Great ideas guys! I think I''m going to try to find a key ring that I can engrave. I thought about a personalized door mat and some other things that would have our future name.. . but its like someone said.. its not her last name yet (althought that hasn''t stopped me on some other things!

I would love to get an embosser but I don''t have the time, plus I think i would want custom graphics with a celtic knot or something neat like that.

I''m going to the mall and some stores today to look... and then I''m meeting a DJ about the wedding... busy busy! I''ll let you know how it goes.

Oh, it''s for a woman...oops! Then I like the key ring idea! With your combined initials on one side and the date you moved in together on the other. That way it''s a family heirloom...Congrats!

On the same line of an embosser....ADRESS LABELS or Personalized Stationery with envelopes and address. A print shop can get those out for you in a day. Those embosser things can also have fast turnaround. Notaries are in need of a replacement and other legal needs so that industry has fast service options.

Still love the key chain... fob...doohickey idea. That is something she will touch and handle everyday and have fond memories of your thoughtfulness!!! Brownie points...stored up on an everyday basis!! Woo Hoo. §

I bought a couples keychain for me and my bf when we purchased our new home. www.redenvelope.com
Sorry, website doesn''t show it anymore!

I think it''s a great idea.

Congrats on the new home

Key ring idea is great! It was really funny to read this, because I asked for a key ring for my birthday last week because it''s a small, inexpensive gift and FI just dropped $1000 on a suit for the wedding

And what does he come home with? A TIFFANY KEY RING! Like, the most expensive one they''ve got. Like I need a $200 key ring?! I didn''t say anything until he started to fret about his bank balance and then I said ''Take it back honeyyyyy!'' Which is a long way of saying, I''m glad to hear I''m not the only woman

wacko enough to think a Tiffany key ring is like, priority 576 or lower in terms of worthwhile expenses.

Still, opening the li''l blue box was fun.

Key ring! Do it! And when you find a good one, let us know so I can get one too.

On a side note my bf uses his expired wedding band as his keychain. That always cracks me up.
