And helicopters are hovering above. I am all locked up. Have the alarm on and yes my baseball bat!!!! Too bad DH is missing all the fun. Grrrr.

Girl keep that bat handy!!! And the attack dogs at the ready.

sorry to hear it but glad you've got the bat!

MoZo

Oh no, thats really scary. As long as everything is locked up and you have your bat, you should be fine.

This is why I keep my rifle looking bbgun close to me. I hope you stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is a home invasion?

Here in Africa "home invasion" is when blacks invade a white-owned farm and take it as their own, sometimes killing the white owners and their black workers.

Google isn't telling me what it means in the US, but perhaps the Americans here could enlighten me?

Kaleigh, lots and lots of dust going to you and your neighborhood! If there are helicopters there then there must be cops around too, which is reassuring. Please let us know that all is well!

It usually means someone has came to the door and the homeowner opened the door and the person or persons pushed there way in, usually they are looking to rob the people and steal things from the house and sometimes the homeowners get hurt or killed, I hope the people are ok.

Trekkie - I didn't realize you were in Africa. That sounds scary :errrr: . I hope you never have to experience anything like it... or even like the US version which was explained above.

How scary Trekkie!!!

The couple was tied up and pistle whipped. The robbers came through an unlocked door. They stole TV's , computers and money. They are still on the loose!!! :nono:

Oh my gosh!! I hope they are found! I wonder which one of your neighbors called the police.

That is really scary--I admit that I tend to only lock the doors before I go to bed and before I leave the house. This is an unfortunate reminder that being home does not = being safe! I'm so sorry for your neighbors!

That's horrible. :blackeye: Lots of dust going your way. Be safe!

I hope by now your neighborhood is safe.
Better than a baseball bat is wasp spray. Shoots up to 20' - aim for the eyes.

Keep us posted - hope the catch them.
I wonder if the watched this poor couple and targeted them?

kaleigh - I hope they are ok!

dragonfly, I think they are ok. They didn't say on the news if they had to go to the hospital or not. Their names haven't been released. I don't know the road well, it's in the same town but different township.

BUT please let this be a reminder, keep your doors locked. These are desperate times.. :(sad

Glad you're okay. I hope your neighbors are safe and they catch the people who did this.

Beyond keeping the door locked, be certain who you are opening the door to. I've heard recently about people dressing as vacuum sales people or a carpet cleaning service (plus others) so they can go door to door and get a look in people's homes.

Yikes - this is scary - I think I live very close to you Kaleigh. I hope they catch them soon!

A month ago a couple of my friends were robbed while home. At about midnight, 4 guys kicked in their door and robbed them at gunpoint. Luckily they were not hurt, but are still shaken up. The cops haven't found the guys yet. They live in a nice neighborhood in a quiet, outlying suburb. Scary!

Be safe!

I live in a small town, but I always keep my doors locked and we do have licensed guns in the house and we are trained to use them  this comes from when we got robbed years ago when we live in the intercity area. Glad to hear they are ok, keep alert and keep doors locked...you just never know who might want to come it!

lately there has been lots of robberies in our neighborhood too especially during working hours.they ring the door bell and if no one answer the door then they break in and take whatever they can in 5 mins.

Kaleigh - that is really scary! I'd have the baseball bat by my side too especially if DH wasn't home! :errrr:

A question though - do they normally send out a police helicopter over home invasions in your area? Homes get robbed all the time in Toledo (the biggest city near me) and I've never heard of a copter being sent out looking for the suspects. Maybe the criminals here aren't that smart (duh!) because they usually get caught within 24 hours.

Oh dear I am sorry to hear this, I was the victim of a home invasion in high school and it left me scarred for a long, long time. Actually, there are certain things that will probably always stay with me. In addition to keeping your doors locked, please always make sure you know exactly who is at the door before you open it. If police officers come around to perhaps ask neighbors questions about what they saw, etc., please ask to see a badge through the peephole before you open that door!!

ETA - Diva, they sent a helicopter when I got home invaded as well.

Diva - I assume that the chopters were sent out because the family was in the house tied up and pistol whipped... thus being held against their will and injured. The people didn't just take things, they assaulted those inside. That's enough to get the chopters out around here lol.

What's a "chopter"? Is that the same thing as a chopper or 'copter? :cheeky:

HH - HEHE YES...I'm a dork. For some reason, I've called them that since I was really young.

omg, that is the best tip I've seen in awhile. We all think mace, but you have to be too close! I want to get a taser!

BTW, the advice on locking doors. I know most of us don't do it, but every summer, even though I live in a good neighborhood, bad people come to good neighborhoods because because people are caught off guard - usually elderly, but it doesn't have to be that way. Don't leave your garage door open. The door to the house is usually unlocked. Also lock your storm door if you have one, so when someone rings the bell and you open the door, there is something between you.

Please take good care of yourself, Kaleigh. Stay safe.

Oh, I see  ! That would get a quite a bit of attention around here too. Just last year there was a man that held his family hostage in a higher end suburb and the cops/swat team, etc. were camped out there for days. It was a tense situation to say the least. The wife and children were able to get away safely and I'm pretty sure he's sitting in a jail cell somewhere.

Thanks for all the advice. Love all the safety tips, they are spot on!!! I am still sleeping with my trusty bat.. DH comes home tomorrow. BUT am thinking those thugs are far gone. BUT have not been caught... I feel so bad for the couple. They must be traumatized. ;( :nono:
