This is one of the reasons I no longer subscribe to any premium movie channels nor go to the theater; there are so few Hollyweirdos that I can respect or 'support' because of their arrogance and hypocritical attitudes.

Example, earlier this month when news broke of Johansson's impending divorce:
"I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage. Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same," she said.

Yet, just 4 days later, she wouldn't reciprocate that same respect for another working mom:
The long-standing comedy show skewered President Donald Trump's elder daughter with a faux perfume ad, starring actress Scarlett Johansson. The name of the perfume? Complicit.

As Johansson walks into an elegant party in a glittering evening dress, the narrator says: "A woman like her deserves a fragrance all her own. A scent made just for her. Because she's beautiful. She's powerful. She's complicit."

"She doesn't crave the spotlight, but we see her. Oh, how we see her," says the narrator as Johansson applies lipstick and sees Alec Baldwin playing Trump reflected back in the mirror.

The narrator continues: "A feminist, an advocate, a champion for women, but like how?" And concludes: "Complicit: The fragrance for the woman who could stop all of this but won't."

Her chosen profession depicts her doing the very thing she seeks to refrain from in her own life, making her (IMO) a hypocrite and 'complicit' in promoting the very behavior she was trying to pre-empt. If Ivanka is 'open' to criticism & mockery, Johansson deserves no less from those who chose to skewer her ... for whatever reason.

Sorry Scar, you don't get to eat from the buffet without paying the same price as everyone else, including Ivanka. :hand:

If your leaning is that born rich, never having to really work hard (because of family wealth), and you find that the same as Scarlett Johansson who's been acting since she was 9 then so be it.

if Ivanka Trump does not speak out against her father then she is complicit in his policies, those policies that will force American's off their healthcare, gutting the EPA, in bed with Russians, on and on. If she supports him, she is complicit. I don't find Ivanka Trump who went to private schools and lives in gilded homes as in the same category as an actress who went to PS 41 in the Village. Johanssen attended the Professional Childrens school from middle thru high school. A very expensive private school costing 45K a year today. Trump attended Choate Rosemary - todays prices 55K for boarding 44K day students. Trump went to Wharton, and Johansson went to work.

Johansson is an actress and businesswoman and Trump is a businesswoman backed by her Dad and her husband, not saying she isn't bright, but myself, having been lower middle class and upper class today, I can tell you, money helps.

I can understand your feelings, because I used to like Tim Allen but no longer watch anything he does as his political views are not mine.

I don't judge Scarlett (or anyone really) based on their bank account, sex, parents, religion, ethnicity, education, etc.; rather, I am judging her simply & equally as a person based on her words/actions, specifically (per the thread topic) - the hypocrisy of one public figure asking the media to butt out of her 'business' while mocking another for entertainment purposes ... and a paycheck. The 'do as I say, not as I do' mentality.

I'm not implying Ivanka is an angel, just that Scarlett is a hypocrite. It jumped out to me while reading the news because the two quoted articles were close together in the AP's line-up, and the irony was laughable.

Actors are just entertainers. They are paid to portray people they are not. They don't deserve to be elevated IMO, just on that basis alone. When they do humanitarian work or charity work, or entertain troops, that's great. When they do SNL, I'm not taking that seriously. It's just fiction.

I"m a little confused about how this is hypocritical? She is saying that she won't discuss her own divorce to the media, and asking that the media doesn't discuss her divorce. What does that have to do with SNL, which is satirical in nature? Or with Ivanka Trump? She isn't discussing Ivanka's marriage in the media (which would be hypocritical, IMO).

Yeah, I don't see the hypocrisy. What she did was act in a skit that comments on Ivanka's public persona and behavior. Johanssen simply said she did not want to comment on her own personal life (divorce). She also asked the media not to report on it, but from history we know the media will get into celebrities private lives regardless if they have actual info or not, to sell papers.

An actor is a hypocrite. Uh, ok. Thanks for letting us know?

I do agree that there's hypocrisy in Hollywood. I don't consider this an example though. I thought her statement commenting on her divorce saying she's not going to comment on her divorce was a little odd but the skit - not so much.

Can I just say, I didn't even know she was married and/or getting a divorce [again/after RR]?
I do agree that Hollywood is FULL of hypocrisy. I don't see the connection between the two though.

The reason I think it's hypocritical is the skit mocks Ivanka (who is not a government employee or elected official) personally vs her professional life, as well as her marriage. Ivanka wouldn't really even be 'news' if not for her father being a candidate/now-prez.

Scarlett wants her personal life/marriage to be ignored by the public & media.

To me, same same.

Here is the <2 min skit:

Don't get me wrong - I get the whole humor side of the skit, and think it's hilarious how they mimic every single corny perfume commercial there is ... and quite well. It's Scar's specific request to be afforded privacy from publicity in a manner that she is not affording to Ivanka (could be anyone really) that rubs me the wrong way.

I think you are off base, Ivanka was a public figure since she was older teen and adult life. Ivanka had breast augmentation years ago and it was all over the news (being a NYer I have always read about the Trumps since I was a kid).. Johansson has said she will not be talking about her divorce, when Ivanka get's divorced she can state this also. Ivanka is a public figure..I don't see how you think Johannson is a hypocrite, she's an actress.. if you believe a woman should not take down another woman, it happens all the time. I

IMHO, It seems quite a reach to compare the two.

I mean, so, hypocrisy: pretending to have good/moral values contrary to one's (often hidden) actions. Championing animal rights and getting caught wearing fur, that's hypocritical. Preaching that people should age naturally and then having plastic surgery, that's hypocritical.

S. Jo put out a statement that she would not comment on the details of the dissolution of her marriage. Hypocrisy would be to leak unsavory details about her ex anonymously. Or to talk about details of someone else's personal separations/divorces.

Contrary to your assertion, the skit from SNL says nothing about Ivanka's marriage, and does not delve into details of her relationship with her husband or children. The words "wife" or "mom" are not used. Nothing in that realm is targeted. So, as I said: a reach.

Now, if she said, "Don't criticize me, people should never be critical of each other!" and then did the Complicit sketch.... ok, I'd give that to you. But this was not that. :))
