We know they come up every year... might as well put them all in one place!

I'll get the ball rolling...

Any suggestions as to how I should tip my hairdresser?

My hair dresser is probably one of the most important service people in my life - he or she determines whether getting ready to face the day is a breeze or a pain - so I've always tipped generously, as in 100% if their normal fee. (I'm talking cuts only, no color.) I'm seeing someone new this year; I think my visit today will be the fourth time she cuts my hair - at most. What do y'all think... would it be appropriate to tip her 50% of her normal fee? She's an excellent cutter by the way, so much that I don't mind the 20-30 mile drive to see her.

HI:

I give 20% on the total bill regardless of the season. That said, my gal loves red wine, so frequently I'll bring her a bottle instead of a tip--the wine is always conderably more than what she would get in cash, and she has told me she prefers wine anyway!

cheers--Shaorn

I tip usually 20-30%. During the holiday season, it's the same. BUT, for special people that I see all the time, like a hairdresser or a waiter from a restaurant I frequent, I write up a Christmas card, put some money in it and thank them for their services. That way it is more like an actually holiday tip, than a random overtipping and you don't have to explain to them that this tip is for Christmas and such.
