Hockey play-offs: are you a hockey widow?

DH is torn between a few Cdn teams - Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto (well, less so Toronto because in the east... nobody roots for the big smoke and admits it! tee hee!) and tonight is a hockey game. Oh... joy....oh... bliss....

I appreciate the game as a national past time and all, and that this is the play offs... but, not being a huge fan, it does not impact my life a whole lot. I don't get the need to wear a team jersey at work and put flags on my car and honk when they win a series. I'm just an old fuddy duddy I guess!

Any hockey widows out there? how do you spend your nights when your SO is engrossed in a game?

(I'm on PS, so guess how I'd answer!?!?!) ;))

My husband loves hockey but he mostly watches Bruins games. Actually though, we're watching American Idol right now and he's taping the game. He'll catch up after I go to bed. Sometimes I watch too, but I'm usually on the computer at the same time.

Ha ha, opposite over here if anything. We both love hockey, and I probably get more into it than he does.

Also, FWIW, Sens are the only ones making it to the Playoffs this year. You've got two less teams to keep up with :cheeky:

P.P.S.: One very wise (read: random drunk) guy at a bar once told me something that has stuck with me ever since: Leafs suck c*ck. Yup.

My MIL is a HUGE TML fan - she'd just explode if she heard that!!

My hubby is a huge Kings fan. He loves hockey in general, too, and is watching all the playoff games he can.

Yesterday evening, he spent about 15 minutes complaining to the Dish customer service about the blackout of the playoff game. He was really annoyed, having spent the past few days complaining to everyone and anyone on Twitter (Kings organization, etc.) about the blackout. They announced they'd lifted the blackout, but the game was still blacked out.

While he's watching, I usually play on the computer in one way or another. I'll go to the games with him, but we only go a few times a season.

A few years ago, we had season seats for a minor-league hockey team, but it was an hour away and began to get tiring going three times a week after work, etc.

DH is presently screaming at the TV for the Blues game.

My fiance has Stars season tickets and for the past two years I have had to go to all the games. So umm. I have been sucked in. I am usually fannish about tv shows/book series/movies (mainly scifi, I'm a trekkie and all that), so it's weird to be this horrendously fannish about a sport. I have always gone to Texas Rangers (baseball) games but never, you know, twice a week for months on end. The amount of hockey memorabilia I have is astounding. The fiance actually cried when we didn't make the playoffs. Although I like hockey, I said, "thank goodness - now my weeknights are free!" (Plus the playoff tickets were/would have been EXPENSIVE.)

Also the hockey stadium lights are THE BEST lighting for my e-ring ever. Even better than jewelry stores.

I'm a sports widow for sure, but surprisingly not hockey. My husband will watch golf before hockey.

My husband watches all sports but isn't terribly into hockey. We used to get Wings tickets from his employer once in a while and we loved actually going to the games but neither of us really watch it much on TV. DH's big thing is college basketball and during that season our lives revolve around U of M games. What fun

I am thankful that my dh isn't into watching sports on tv and can take or leave it. Thank goodness for me as he has so many other hobbies there would be little time for anything if he was into that too. ::) (I find hockey and many other sports too violent for me to enjoy so it's also not my cup of tea).

Hope everyone's favorite teams win!

DH and I are both huge hockey fans! I even got him a personalized Blackhawks jersey for Christmas! We are so excited that the 'Hawks are in the playoffs again this year!

My DH and I are the same way, Misfit... for the same team! He got me a Hossa jersey for my birthday a few years ago, and I returned the favor by getting him a Toews jersey for his last year. Beyond that, we both love the Stanley Cup playoffs in general - even though I'm ridiculously tired today, I was so psyched that all three games went to OT last night. Hopefully Saturday night our 'Hawks get a win.

Um, yeah, not quite. I'M the hockey fan, in fact I've had Sharks season tickets for the past 6 years. SO never liked hockey before meeting me, but I've converted him!! It's so funny because when I drag him to Sharks games with me, HE's the one who has to borrow MY jersey (I have all 3 - home, away, and third).

I was so proud of him because he got to Vegas yesterday and instead of spending the evening gambling away, he found a place to watch the Sharks game on TV. :appl:

BOO SHARKS. BOOOO! lol

DH is obsessed with that Hartnell dude. I got him shirts from the foundation and he wants a jersey. (why? he is all blues normally!) He is very hoarse this morning btw, from yelling at the TV. lol

My boyfriend and I are Canucks bandwagoners... That being said, still not quite over the disappointment of last year. The jersey's staying in the closet until Round 2.
My neighbour below me hosts playoff parties so I know if we score or not :P And I love hearing the car honking when they win games.

For sure those lights make diamonds twinkle. I always check out other women's bling at the games.

And, I hear you on how tiring it can be going to every game for a season.

We go to his team's preseason game in Las Vegas every year. A few years ago, we got married while we were there. So, we get to celebrate our anniversary with a hockey game every year. I'm not entirely sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. At least there's little chance of him forgetting our anniversary.

I don't particularly love hockey, but hubby loves it, so I indulge him.

My husband and son have season tickets to the Devils. They have had this since their inception so I've been a hockey widow for a loooonnnnnggg time. Last nite's game seemed to be very intense but what do I know. I went upstairs and dug out my Perry Mason DVDs.

My son has always played on at least 2 teams since he was 6 years old. I rarely went to his games, I hate the cold and couldn't stand watching him get smashed around. But for their sakes I hope thy win the series.

I'm the hockey fan in the relationship. Watching my Blues right now, in fact! DH doesn't really care for it. I'm trying to bring him around, but indifference is about the best I've been able to do.

Tonight, Ottawa is playing the NY Rangers (intermission at this moment) and wow - that was a period full of fights and penalties! I think I watch for the fights - how weird is that????

MIL is upset no TML in the series. BIL upset no Montreal in it. Me... red wine and hockey? I'm IN!

Boston vs Washington - game 7 - who are you rooting for?

Ottawa vs NY Rangers - game 7 - who are you rooting for?

DH is Boston / Ottawa

DH is Boston and Ottawa too I think...His ultimate dream is a Philadelphia/St. Louis finals.

DH is predicting LA and Boston... at least 1 of the original 6 teams making it to the end. Not realistic, but he'd also love a Canadian team in there. We'll see!

Me - more PS time that I don't have to feel guilty about! ;))

I am just irritated at our cable provider for not carrying NHL network this season. I'm missing out on don cherry and his sweet outfits

   Don sure knows fashion, doesn't he??? Blech! Some things look like he's wearing a sofa slipcover!

I couldn't tell you what Don Cherry ever says. All I can do is stare at the outfits.

YES! I was travelling during the playoffs last year and hockey didn't feel the same without Coaches Corner and Don Cherry saying Lallongo instead of Luongo.

I'm definitely the hockey fan in this house, but DH is slowly getting sucked in. He actually asked for a Canadians jersey for Christmas this year.

There's an episode of Rick Mercer where he goes with Don Cherry to Fabricland to pick out new suit material.

"What!? I'm wearing drapes? My image is ruined!"

Yes. DH has claimed the big flat screen TV rights for Game 7 Rangers vs Senators in our home tonight. New Yorkers here, so he is a Ranger fan.

    OMG he kills me. Lallongo is one my husband always enjoys too. He screams at the TV.

Don's jacket tonight - OMG! I think it is a screen test pattern? or is it a stylized font of some sort? or also kind of looks like books on a library shelf!!!

Red/white/black... blinding! Wonder if he got that fabric from Fabricland???
