I started dating this guy recently. His parents are jewelers. It would be a bad idea to ask them to make my jewelry, wouldn''t it? (i will be a paying customer, of course!)
I agree with Angel. I''d feel the situation out first. Maybe even bring it up to your SO (about needing a good jeweler) and see what he says. If not his parents, they may be able to recommend someone that they trust!
What if a project you hire them for gets messed up. . .a ring turns out bad or they sell you a chipped stone??? Who knows. . . but not worth the risk especially if you like this guy
There''s TONS of jewelers out there. . . did yours recommend anyone?
Fortekitty,
I think it's a bad idea too, for many reasons. I know your jeweler retired, but is there any way to get in touch with him to see who he would recommend?? Did anyone take over his business??
He recommended a few, but i didnt'' like their work... and they didn''t bother to listen to what I want. They just looked at me and "told" me what I would like.
My jeweler''s family took over the business, but since they don''t know how to make jewelry themselves, they now have a benchman. He used to make the rings himself!!
That''s a shame. I guess you need to keep looking then. You know quality work when you see it. So shop around until you find the right workmanship and communication levels that would meet your expectations. I have several jewelers that I work with, I guess I am very lucky.
