I''ve been growing my hair out for the wedding. I haven''t worn it this long since I was 20... which was a long time ago. It''s down past my bra in the back and it is DRIVING ME UP THE WALL.

I really can not wait to chop it off the week after the wedding. I''ve kept it just below my shoulders since I was 25 and it''s just bugging the heck out of me. Snarly, tangly, and in bed it gets around my neck and I feel like I''m choking. I''m thinking of braiding it at night, but it looks so awful in the mornings then. And I usually shower at night before work. Of course I wear it in a pony most days, so it''s not like I''m a fashion plate anyway.

Anyone elses vanity choices for the wedding making them a little crazy?

Gypsy I feel your pain. I always keep my nails super short and I have been growing them out for the past month and I have 2 more weeks to go and I can''t wait to chop them off. I hate them, but I figured I will be able to get a nice natural manicure that day if they are long. When I was turning 15 I grow my hair our for the quinceanera party. The day after the party my mom refused to take me to get it cut so I put it up in a pony tail and cut it off myself. I really couldn''t stand another day with long hair.

If having your hair long for the wedding is something you truly need then just try your best to stick it out I''m sure it will be worth it

i hear you!! i didn''t cut my hair for about 6 months just for the wedding and am only TODAY getting it chopped off -- it''s 3/4 down my back and i''m thinking of cutting it to just past my shoulders. like you, i''ve been keeping it in a pony tail but with the hot weather it is annoying.

hang in there - it is totally worth it as you will probably need as much "material" as you can provide for the wedding. although, i think you are wearing your hair half up/half down? so you may have more flexibility. i wore mine up so i did need to keep it as long as i could.

Ringster-- Oh I''m jealous. THe heat has been a huge factor in the irritation. It''s like an icky planket down my back. Yeah, I''m thinking of wearing it half down... that''s why I''m growing it out. But at my fitting, I didn''t like the half down with my dress so now I''m in a bit of a quandry. I figure if I leave it long, and I need it shorter, I can always cut it, but the reverse isn''t trure. But it is just getting on the nerves man. I hope my new job''s building has arctic air conditioning.

pichuchy, that''s one of the things I keep meaning to do... grow out my nails, but they bug me too long too. That would be frustrating. On the plus side the wedding is almost here!! And then you can chop off your nails!

Try buying one of those clips that you swirl your hair up and then you clip it back and it kinda falls to the side. It''s off your neck and out of your face! I can''t have short hair because I can''t do anything with it, and I can''t do anything with long hair either, but at least I can control it being in/out of my face. Mine is way below my shoulder blades, and these clips have been my life saver. There isn''t a day I dont wear it! There are like 2.98 for 2 at walmart!

I have long, curly hair and I throw it in a loose bun at night so it doesn''t get tangled - and if you use a cloth scrunchy (you know, like a leftover from the 80s?) instead of a hair band, you shouldn''t get dents. . .

Good luck! I LOVE my long hair (I''ve had it since before wedding planning and plan to keep it after the wedding so my situation is a bit different), but I have days of wanting to cut it, too. Honestly, I found short hair was more difficult to manage the one summer I had it since I couldn''t pull it back.

Could you maybe put it in a french braid? Those are fairly simple and keep the tangles away AND look nice for work.

I''m in the same boat, and I can''t stand it! My hair is driving me batty. What I''ve been doing is putting it into a ponytail at the back of my head, then wrapping the hair around and clipping it. I have very fine, curly hair, but lots of it, and the clip only stays for an hour or two before I have to re-do it. I shower at night, and right out of the shower I braid it to keep it out of the way and to keep the curl to a minimum.

Short answer: YES!

My hair isn't even that long yet, but it's grown from about my chin to past my shoulders. I got it cut last in February I believe, so I need to get it trimmed at least soon. And it is driving me nuts. I am not used to this anymore!

So yes, I totally feel ya.

ETA: I plan on growing it out even more...so..haha. We'll seeee! And I still have a year to go as of today!

i did the same thing with my hair!!!! i spent two years growing it out for the wedding day and i just got married last weekend! we leave for our honeymoon on saturday and i can assure between now and then it will be chopped and donated to locks of love!

Oh yeah, I think I even had a thread on it... people cautioned me not to cut it off immediately for my DH''s sake, so I waited about 2 months and then CHOP. He was well prepared for it, and even liked it, but I liked it most of all. I''d had long hair for a LONG time.

oh, and it turns out that it didn''t need to be as long as it was because I wore it up. That doesn''t mean to go out now and get it cut... but maybe a trim would make you feel better?

Aw, I feel your pain. I have worn my hair long (about to my bra strap) since...well as long as I can remember. Nighttime can get a little annoying (i live in los angeles and all i can say is thank god for central air!)

Like a poster mentioned above, I usuallly make a loose bun on top of my head when i sleep. keeps it from getting too tangled at night and takes it off my neck so it cannot strangle me. I used to use just a regular pony tail but I found that it made it hard for my to sleep as comfortably ( i toss and turn alot).

anyway, piled up on top of my head, its out of sight out of mind =)

if a full bun makes it harder to manage in the morning you may want to try usung a ponytail but instead of pulling the hair all the way through the last wrap around, just pull it part way. so it kind of cuts the length of the ponytail in half...omg that made no sense... I am not so good at descirbing things... maybe you will get the gist =) anyway, loose like that, you should barely be able to notice a difference in the morning.

Good luck!

I''m at the other end of the problem! I have just over a year to go from short, to as long as possible!! I want long hair!!!

You could wear it on top of your head at night a la Pebbles Flintstone. I have longish hair and I hate it loose at night. Ugh. Drives me nuts.

I started with really long hair, like two inches fom my waist long hair (I''ve had long hair since 6th grade, except for 1 or 2 times when I went crazy and chopped it off, then immediately started growing it long again.). I for some reason feel like I can''t get it cut, even though it is clearly long enough (if not too long now) for probably anything. So it is now at my waist and just getting longer. I don''t necessarily mind it, but I keep getting the "I want something different urge" and I have to resist because I want to look like me on my wedding day.

My FI hates my long hair. It annoys him iwhen we''re sleeping because he''s always rolling onto it and hurting me. I think he''d be thrilled if I chopped it off.

I still have 10-ish months, and my hair grows like a weed, so I need to remember to cut it if it gets long enough that I can sit on it!

ohhhh I can''t friggen WAIT to cut my hair off.
We leave on Monday for Jamaica, wedding is Wednesday, and I already have an appointment in place for thursday to get it cut at the resort''s spa.
Can''t. Wait.

I''m thinking shoulder length.....layers.

The lady who gave me highlights the other day commented that I have a lot of hair, but it''s just very fine like an infants! lol
Explains all the frizz and the unecessary and annoying kinks in it all the time!

Can''t wait to shorten my nails either....

Gypsy, I feel ya. Long hair at night is a PITA! I can''t handle it so I have to ponytail it an the bottom on neck to sleep and put a clip in so nothing gets in face. Try that.

You also have thick hair so when it''s hot and humid like it is right now, it''s a total bummer. I don''t think you''ll reget having it longer for the wedding though.

I must be the only one who feels the opposite way. I had short hair for a very long time and thought it was 10 times more trouble than my long hair. I couldn''t put it back, it was so thick that without the weight of length it was always poofy, it was always against the back of my neck which was hot and irritating, I couldn''t do anything with it so it always looked the same, etc. I have had my long hair, down to my waist, for 8 years and I can''t imagine wanting to go back.

Hussy- That''s why I keep mine long. If I can''t put it in a pony tail, it drives me nuts. If hair sticks to sweat on my neck, I get irritatable. Besides for me, short hair takes way too much work and hairspray for me.

But while sleeping...ugh, long hair can be a nightmare.

I am so jealous that you''ve been able to grow your hair that long! I tried starting in August of last year, and I have maybe gotten an extra inch, and that''s it. I''ve been cutting (trimming) every 2-3 months. I''m going tomorrow, and then I''ll go right before the wedding (4 mos away), and that''s it.

And I''m definitely chopping it off after the wedding!

i''m the exact reverse of you, gypsy. mine was long, and last october, i donated 13 inches. i was thinking a year would be long enough to grow it back out and have it a decent length, but now i''m upset because i have less than 4 months until the wedding, and my hair is still right at my shoulders. i''m wishing i had waited to donate it because i''ve always wanted it down, long, and curly for my wedding, and now, not only is it NOT going to be long, but it''ll be even shorter if it''s curled!

WOW lookit all the responses. A broad spectrum of feelings!

I think I''m going to get it trimmed, it needs it. Last time it was trimmed was 3 months ago. I am going to just wear it in a bun at night. I can''t deal with it otherwise. I have thick hair, though the individual strands are fine (not baby fine, just fine).

I gotta invest in some scrunchies too.

Buttercup, It''s funny how different we all are right? A french braid is something I can do... it''s not the best look for me, but it is an option I hadn''t considered, THANKS!

Erica, I feel the pain. I really do.

Sarah... oh my sympathies! Another year to go. Get regular trims and hopefully it will be more manageable.

Asscher-- WHOO HOO. Good for you!

Sumbride-- that''s so nice of you to wait for your Hubby. I doubt I''m gonna be anywhere near as nice. I can see my self at the salon the following weekend! I definitely need a trim.

Gwyn, I got the gist... and I''ll give your advice is try. We don''t have central air though. So I''m really quite flustered int he heat this year.

Oh Maisie, I''m sorry, that''s hard. I''ve heard flinstones vitamins help hair grow... have you tried that?

Diamondfan... yeah, gonna give the old pebbles a try.

mjso... I can''t imagine having my hair that long. I think I''d strangle someone with it. You have some patience my friend. Surly a few inches off the bottom would still leave you with plenty though?

Lucky... lol. Shoulder length and layers shoulds like heaven. ENJOY THE FREEDOM! I''ll be thinking of you on Thursday.

Miracles, yeah... I''ll regret chopping it off before the wedding (mutter mutter, mumble, mumble)... I will try the pony if the bun doesn''t work. Sigh... thank you!

IBH-- Really? Short hair was more trouble for you? That''s interesting. I''m glad your hair works for you!

Krissie-- my hair grows at a good speed, so yeah I am lucky. The trims are a good idea.

Oh Doodle, that''s not good. It does jump up when curly... that''s why I have to keep mine below the shoulders. It''s naturally wavy and if I don''t style it (which happends frequently) and just let it air dry, it jumps up to my shoulders on its own. 4 months is a good amount of time, if you baby it and since it is summer and hair grows faster in the heat, maybe you''ll be okay. ((HUGS)).

thanks for the reassurance, gypsy! my hairdresser made a point, too, that made me feel a bit better--she said when your hair is anywhere near shoulder length, it looks shorter and like it isn''t growing for a while there because that length bends the hair. once it gets past the shoulder, it''ll look a good deal longer. it''s at least five inches longer than it was, and i''ve had it trimmed several times, too, so it grows pretty fast...i''m just hoping it keeps it up!

Ditto! I have pretty long/thick curly hair, and I HAVE to put it up like that every night, or else i''ll look like a troll in the morning.......

Oh I''m sure it would leave me with plenty of length. I''m just so used to it being long that I feel like it is really short when it is, say to the middle of my shoulder blades. I''m thinking about getting a trim, just so that it will brush out a little easier.

I find long hair is easier than short hair as well. My hair is VERY straight and the individual strands are rather thin, but I have a TON of them. It took 4 hours for a hairdresser to do my hair for a formal in high school. It was half up, half down and spiral curled. The curls fell out with about 2 hours because my hair is so straight and was so heavy. When it is long I just brush it and go. It falls straight and I don''t have to deal with any products. I NEVER blow dry my hair because I don''t want to damage it, so it is basically, shower, shampoo, brush and done. When it was shorter, it would flip up funny at the bottom/need more done to it.

Gypsy...I''m feeling exactly like you are. I''m growing out my hair and I hate it. I almost want to cut it off on our honeymoon so I don''t have to deal with it then. I''m chopping it off and can''t wait!!

Got a trim today and wore it in a bun all day because it was just ridiculously hot here. I''ll put up with it for a few more months.

doodle, your hairdresser is totally right. Just a few months ago I was feeling like my hair wasn''t growing at all... then all the sudden I noticed its long... it finally got past shoulder length.

Lil--- I''m gonna give it a try tonight. Wearing it loose to bed is just frustrating me.

mjso... that''s exactly the hair style I had for junior highschool graduation. It took the hairdresser so long to do it I was ready to scream by the time it was done. I have never asked for anything remotely that time intensive again.

Courtney-- YUP! I can''t wait either.

I wish my hair would grow! I''ve been trying really hard to grow it out for a few years--now I want to even more since my wedding''s in about a year--but it will not grow. Even if I don''t cut it for months, it seems to stay at the same length. So frustrating. I envy all of you ladies with long hair. Mine is just past my shoulders and won''t budge.

Doodle and Gypsy, you have given me hope--maybe it''ll magically seem long after a few more months because it''s around shoulder-length. I''ll keep my fingers crossed. Any helpful hints for hair growth would be much appreciated...

Oh darling, I feel your pain! I am also growing my hair out and seriously, I have thought of running to the salon and chopping it off. Last august before we got engaged I took like over a foot of hair off and got a cute little pixie cut. I loved it, but didn''t want to be a short haired bride (NOT that there is anything wrong with it, it just didn''t seem like ''me''). Now I am suffering the wrath of the long hair. Wedding is October 4, hopefully on October 5th its coming off again!

Good luck! You are not alone ;)

right now, i am DYING to dye my hair! i used to change the color often just for fun...until i tried to do my own highlights with one of those kits where the little brush looks like a mascara wand--it got tangled, and i wound up with a PEACH colored stripe on the side of my head, so that put me on a four year hiatus of not coloring it, but now i kinda want to. i''m waiting until after the wedding, though, just in case i wind up with another peach stripe!

I felt that way - and I cut it!

I had been growing it out for nearly a year and it bothered me so much - it was to the middle of my back and in one quick snip and a split second decision, i cut it to a chin length bob and i couldn''t be happier!

I figured why have long hair for my wedding if it''s "not me" - i''ve had shorter hair my whole life and it just looks good on me - long hair drags me down because my hair is SUPER thick...
