Hi, I didn’t realise there was an intro sub forum so here goes - 50yo female from NSW Australia. Married with 3 teenage / preteen kids. Always loved jewellery however didn’t start looking at expensive stones until two years ago when I received a gorgeous opal ring for my birthday. Even my engagement ring is a small marquise from Sam’s Club on Oahu - but it has a huge sentimental value to me.

When I turned 50 last month I started looking into having a 1 carat marquise ring made however my husband made a beautifully heartfelt decision to ask his Mum for a family sapphire ring as my gift. This is such a gorgeous gift as the stone was mined by his late grandfather and was given to his Mum by her parents back in the 60’s.

So the marquise search has been slightly postponed until our 20th Wedding Anniversary in 2024 - and it has grown to at least a 2 carat proposition, if not larger dependant on how the economy is faring at that stage.

Even though I have My .33 marquise, I really don‘t know how to source the perfect stone, hence my reason for joining Pricescope. Hopefully by the time our anniversary arrives I will have found the right stone for me.

Hello fellow Aussie and welcome from Melbourne. Happy belated birthday.

I'm glad we all share a love of jewellery no matter when we started. I'm sure when the time comes you'll get lots of help here regarding a marquise. You never know you might get it sooner than you think!

P.s. if you're on Instagram I'd recommend following Alex Park of Parksfinegroup based in NYC. He always has really lovely marquise cut diamonds but you have to be quick to snap them up.

Hello from acrosd the ditch =)2
happy birthday and we would love to see this heirloom saphire

Hi :wavey::wavey::wavey::wavey: from another Aussie!!!

And hiya, from an American  Welcome, welcome!
You're in the right place. I just want to let you know, we require pictures.
Pictures of everything:lol:
*Video too, if you can swing it.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :kiss2:. I did post photos of my rings in the coloured gemstone thread before I found this introduction thread - terrible forum etiquette I know! But here are 2 for reference. 669A9DA3-1E8E-435D-9884-92FEA7A7C968.jpegC589CE7E-523D-4390-B96D-1E703AA4C14C.jpeg

Oh I love the opal ring! Don't worry about etiquette, lol I've never formally introduced myself either. I guess it's a bit late now haha.

Welcome, I’m a Sydneysider!
I am unashamedly a jewelleryholic. I’ve been collecting for decades!
Opals are my favourite gemstone and I have a few.
As for your stunning bicolor Sapphire, wow, dear husband (DD) and I hope at retirement to move to the Glen Innes area, at least part time, to fossick ourselves for sapphires.
And yes, you’ll do a lot better searching overseas for a quality marquis diamond when the time comes as Australia is a bit of a desert when it comes to choice. It’s no hassle to buy overseas, yes we pay a bit of extra taxes to import but we pay 10% GST on any jewelery or gems anyway.

Breathtaking ! :kiss2:
Love the shape and colour of your saphire and im always happy seeing an Aussie with a beautiful opal

Ive been here only for a little over a year - too late to influence too many jewlery purchases tragically:(2

I only learnt about this introduction thread from you yesterday :mrgreen2:

Beautiful rings, that opal is incredible!! Hello and welcome, from the surf coast of Victoria!

Hi Kyton,
Lovely rings, nice to see a few more Aussies on the forum.
Welcome from Melbourne :wavey:

Wow there are quite a few Aussies here which is lovely! I agree that we seem to be disadvantaged here in Australia with the scarcity of diamond wholesalers.

Ive had initial conversations with two local manufacturing jewellers whom I trust but even they were quoting over $12k for a 1 carat marquise. Then you go online and see US prices to my utter amazement.

Yep even with the taxes it's often cheaper to buy from the US. Plus there is more to choose from. If you need help finding a marquise then you are in the right place!

I’m seeing that very quickly MaryJane - although today I stumbled over Gemtrove in Melbourne which on first glance didn’t look too bad.

hey, I'm from Chicago, new here

HI there ! A warm hello from Adelaide ! :)
