Oooh..... I don''t know!
3.gif
How did you meet your dear fiance? What are your hobbies? And WHAT is it like in Ireland?! I''m of Irish descent and am DYING to see the place!!!

Ooh ooh ooh!!! I love that this thread exists! Was thinking of creating one myself, but I wasn''t sure if there was a limit on how many Who''s Who threads one starts.
3.gif

Am off for lunch now but will have to brainstorm some questions of Delster and retsled questions to pose to you, my fellow thesis-tackling partner in crime.

Oh my, well here goes...
9.gif

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This one''s easy - it would be FI''s lasagne with coleslaw and chips
18.gif
And no, those are not the kind of chips that come in a bag!
2.gif

If I could only drink one thing for the rest of my life, it''d be champagne
18.gif

I''m gonna have to mull the ''what inspires you'' bit over and come back to you!!! But off the top of my head, my great loves are spending time with my family and friends (I''m very sociable), my knitting (it''s an addiction), dancing (even though I have zero talent), horse riding (I don''t get to do it very often), music (I learned piano for a long long time and I must go back one of these days), and sleeeeeep
1.gif

your favorite flower?

Too hard to choose! I love roses, lilies, and orchids. Also michaelmas daisies, snowdrops, and hydrangeas. I have a real soft spot for daffodils as they were my grandmother''s favourite flower. Actually now that I think about it, all the flowers I love, I love them because they have an association with a person or a place for me.

How did you meet your FI? What is your favorite food?

We met at uni. I didn''t get into the master''s programme I wanted, so I very reluctantly returned to my undergrad alma mater for my masters. He was still there finishing up his undergrad but we''d never met before. First time I saw FI I very literally stopped dead in my tracks, halfway in through a doorway, and mid sentence
9.gif
I guess he made an instant impression!

My favourite food right now is FI''s lasagne!
1.gif

FI and I met at uni. My biggest hobby right now is my knitting but I also play the piano, and I horse ride, when funds allow.

Ireland is a fabulous country and I''m very proud to be from here. Yes, the people really are as friendly as everyone says, yes it is as green as everyone says, and no, it doesn''t rain as much as everyone says - it rains more!!!
2.gif
What would you like to know? Do you know where your family came from?

Gwen - long time no see stranger! I missed you!
35.gif

On the subject of food, I ought to add that I also loooooove seafood. Yum yum yum
18.gif

Del,

What is your favourite type of cake and biccies?
9.gif

Blast - I couldn''t edit!

Anyway concerning the piano, what do you play? I like a mix of the classics, Barry Manilow and Bacharach myself!
28.gif

Lorelei, don''t kill me but I don''t eat biccies!!! I just don''t get the attraction
33.gif
I''ll munch on Jaffa cakes or Bourbons if they''re there, but I wouldn''t ever seek them out. And any other kind of biscuit I''ll just ignore. FI''s family thinks is weeeeeird. They''re all BIG biscuit eaters. I think they''re weird cos they never have mini chocolate bars in the house - I have to have mini Mars bars and mini Toffee Crisps in the fridge at all times
2.gif

Cake, hmmmm, again not a big cake eater. I think probably real traditional fruit cake with marzipan and royal icing is probably my favourite. My mother is a wonderful baker and her Christmas cake and Christmas pudding are amazing. I also like cheesecake, but again, I wouldn''t seek it out, more like I''d eat it if it was an option on a menu or something.

I don''t really like ice-cream all that much either, unless it''s a 99. I think I just don''t have a sweet tooth!!!

On my piano, well I''m classically trained - up to Grade 7 ABRSM. I will go back some day and get that Grade 8 and diploma. But these days I mostly play traditional Irish airs, pop songs, and show tunes. I must buy a Baccarach book, that would be lovely! Sadly I can''t do half the things I used to - all my muscle tone and finger dexterity is gone
39.gif

Hey Lorelei what kind of classical piano do you like to play the most?
35.gif
I always favoured the baroque composers and would relish a convoluted passage in Bach or Handel any day. The romantics always drove me spare, sadly I don''t have the necessary talent

A lot of Beethoven and Chopin usually. Actually I find more complicated classics easier than some modern stuff...

Sadly, no I don''t! Well not more recently anyway. My uncle has our coat of arms and from what I can remember he told me that the family name was first found in county Mayo (Maigh Eo??) but I don''t recall where the current living rellies are. Plently of them have been to Australia too see us, and funds permitting I plan to head on over there to see them!! They arrived here in the middle of an Aussie summer, which was a tad uncomfortable for them as they were used to much more nippy weather. Is it really as chilly there as they described it? I''m a sook in the cold
37.gif
What''s Dublin like? I believe a few cousins live there.

Sorry question overload
9.gif

Lorelei I''ve had that experience too. FI loves some of the Scissor Sisters'' stuff so I bought some of their sheet music and I just can''t wrap my fingers round it for the life of me!
39.gif

Andi Mayo is a beautiful part of Ireland, although they''re old football adversaries, but I won''t hold it against you
2.gif
Have you ever watched any of the International Rules matches?

Ireland is odd with the weather, you just can''t guarantee anything. There''ll always be a few drops at some stage in the day! It''s raining down outside right now as I type, and yet the sun was splitting the stones this morning. The last week or so we had glorious sunshine but our sunshine is always patchy. Once the sun goes behind a wisp of cloud at all, it turns quite nippy. And there are always a few wisps of cloud, even on the clearest of Irish days. High temps in Summer would be around 23-25C - we might get a couple of weeks or so in total of those temps, but they''d be rare enough to happen on consecutive days. Lowest temps in Winter would be around -5C but again, it''d be a few ''cold snaps'', and those temps wouldn''t be consistent for anything more than two or three days in a row.

The thing with Ireland isn''t so much the cold, it''s the damp. I''ve lived through a -20C Winter and it was much more tolerable than an Irish Winter, because it was dry cold. Didn''t get into your bones the way the Irish Winter does. If you look at average humidity levels for Ireland, it rarely drops below 70%. You kind of shiver all Winter long because your very bones are cold and you never really warm up.

Oh and if you''re prone to the frizzies at all, don''t forget to pack your hair straighteners before you come here, in Winter or Summer!

Dublin is great, busy, getting more European in flavour by the day I think, and with lots to see and do. So much history. Bullet holes still visible in the statues and on the buildings on O''Connell St from 1916. Ireland''s oldest Georgian street, Henrietta Street (now that''s an unknown gem). The Guinness Storehouse. Jamesons Distillery. The Book of Kells. And it''s a pretty city I think, especially out along the coast. The Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed urban public park in Europe and is still lit by gaslamps. It has its own herd of deer (I''ve nearly hit on more than once with the car, you have to keep your eyes peeled driving through there!) and the President lives there. Dublin Zoo is there too. But bee is the person to ask about Dublin really as she''s a native!

Love reading about you Delster. Tell more! You''ve described Dublin as I would have. It''s an amazing city, lots of new and old all in the same place.

How lovely to find things out about you! My bil loooves Ireland, and.. good lordy that man wears a kilt all the blinkin time.

He''s pushing 400, I swear. Woo. ANYWAY.. I have a girlfriend who LOVES Ireland and went there for her honeymoon, she said its her favorite traveling place to visit.

Long long ago, when I was in 5th grade (and was in love with Eric from the Bay City Rollers
20.gif
) my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Hawley, visited Ireland.. I do believe I still may have her post card. I just remember the beautiful green hills. Someday I hope to visit, too!
I remember him!

HA, thankyou for the tip!!! I''ll pop that in the memory bank!!

I''ve only seen photos of Ireland and it all looks so lush and green... I think that particularly appeals to me as we are in the middle of a drought over here!
3.gif
You''ve painted a beautiful picture of Dublin, I was enamored just reading it! I feel I can picture it already!!

Yay Delster!

So what''s your favorite childhood memory?
Have you started planning your wedding yet?

My parents are both of Irish decent and yet, neither of them have gone. Although there was a trip planned a few years ago but it was canceled. You should come to the States and experience the heat/cold of the Southwest. There are days here in NM where there isn''t a cloud in the sky-and you wish there was only so you could have a bit of shade and get away from the sun!

Are you planning on coming to the States any time soon?

I am dying to go to Ireland, someday!
face23.gif
I loved your New York City Pictures!!! Do you have siblings? Have you knitted anything lately? Or any fun projects?

Glad to hear I didn''t butcher Dublin bee
2.gif

SDL did your teacher send all her students a postcard? That''s amazing!
36.gif

Freke here ya go!

Favourite childhood memory - that would have to be all the endless hours curled up reading. The first book I ever read all by myself was an Enid Blyton (The Faraway Tree I think) and I was six. I remember going into the newsagents all by myself to buy another one and feeling so.grown.up! Ha! I read all those Enid Blytons, and all the Roald Dahls, and some of the Chalet School books. I remember my mother buying me The BFG one Saturday morning when we were doing the shopping, and I had it read by tea time. I can still hear her exasperatedly telling my Dad - "oh for heaven''s sake, she has it read already!"
9.gif
My parents would have been penniless if our local library hadn''t been so good
3.gif

Wedding planning - nope, nothing planned yet. Bigger fish to fry just yet (but don''t mention the war
15.gif
).

Visiting the States - we were just in New York
1.gif
Can''t afford to go back just yet, will you forgive us?

Skippy! Please do come, it''s beautiful here!

Siblings - yes I have siblings (I''m still nervous about giving out too much information). I know I mentioned my brother''s blue eyes and dark hair on here before though - he has the same colouring as Jonathan Rhys Meyers (from The Tudors).

Knitting - I just finished up all the parts of my Mommy Snug last night! Now I have to weave in the ends, block it (which takes DAYS in Ireland cos of the humidity), and then sew it all together
1.gif

How did I miss the Del thread?!

My question is what do you do to relax?

Does your brother come up to Dublin much
3.gif
( I love Jonathan Rhys Meyers!)

Stephanie - to relax I love to sleeeeeep!!!
2.gif
I suffer with horrible insomnia when I''m stressed out so I relish a long long peaceful sleep. It used to come so easy to me but the past few years sleep has been a thorny issue.

I find my knitting very relaxing, I love it. There''s something soothing about the methodical nature of it and yet it''s creative too. I get so much enjoyment from it!

I love a nice massage too although I can''t afford them very often. I think I''ve only had about three professional massages in my whole life. I fell asleep two out of the three times!
1.gif

bee - now how would we explain that to D you naughty girl?
2.gif

SDL - your teacher must have been a wonderful woman, that was such a lovely thing to do. There were 40 children in my primary school class. The average class size here now is something like 24.

OK here''s a treat for all the dreamers-of-Ireland - this is where I spent the August Bank Holiday weekend, it was pure bliss! Although, that water is cooolllllld

Nope! Different province. Actually, not even on the mainland (although there is a bridge). Wanna guess again?
