Thanks for your post on Who's Who....
SH is fine. I saw this mother-daugher team the other day in Hermes. I think they're Indonesian Chinese and as per usual when you see these people in the high-end boutiques, more often than not they tend to be Indo Chinese and loaded!! (I saw plenty of them in Singapore and I can understand a bit of Bahasa). The daugher had on 4ct (maybe 3.50ct, not sure?) EACH earrings. Boy, they were HUGE!! Unfortunately, that planted the seed of DSS about my own BGD earrings!
And she also had on a 4-5ct princess cut ring on her middle finger (not her ering perhaps?) and a tennis bracelet with large diamonds too. I was too busy staring at her (though trying not to be too obvious, ha ha) that I couldn't discern exactly what the mother was wearing but I *do* know that she was completely blinged out too! They had a man with them who could have been the father/ husband, but who could easily have been their bodyguard. With all the bling on them, designer clothes and handbags etc, for sure they would/ should have needed a bodyguard!
You are right though that *most* Chinese have smaller diamonds. In fact, what I've observed here is that most girls or women wear practically no jewellery or to be more precise, no diamond jewellery at all. SH or rather China is funny (not ha ha "funny") in that the rich has lots of money and the rest are not even comfortable at all. I happen to know that most sales assistants and younger office workers for instance earn just a few thousand yuan's per month (1 USD = 6.8 Yuan) . Yet, when the rich goes shopping, for instance when they buy properties or diamonds in HK, they carry *literally* bags of cash and pay for their purchases with these bags of bills. I even saw a programme, i think on CNBC, that confirmed that this.
I think China is slated for tremendous growth in the next few years/ decades. I'm glad that my DH and I are here so we can benefit from this growth (even if personally, I still find it quite hard to live here - due primarily to the huge cultural difference - and I miss SG terribly).
How are things with you, DF? Are you planning to visit SG or China any time soon?
