My DH and little boy are very picky (and so am I, I guess...) I''m trying to introduce new foods to the family and I thought curry would be a good flavor for us to try.

I have no idea what kind of curry to buy (it comes in so many colors!) or if I should go with curry powder recipes or curry paste recipes. Any advice??

Oh! I love curry. We like to use Golden Curry. Usually we mix maybe hot and mild and it gives a good flavor. The directions are pretty easy to follow and it turns out tasty!

Golden Curry is really good.

I also like the Spice Islands Curry Powder (spice aisle) and you can mix it with coconut milk or cream.

For a super-easy curry, if you have an "international foods" aisle see if they have an Indian Section. They usually have simmer jars of curry that you can just throw in a pot with some chicken & veggies & bring to a boil. The mildest flavors are usually Korma and Butter Curry.

Thanks for the suggestions. The jars that I can just throw in sound like a good starting place!

Here''s some recipes from House Foods: http://www.house-foods.com/Curry/recipes.aspx. They are the maker of Vermont Curry, which is a Japanese curry like Golden Curry. I think Japanese curry is great for introducing curry b/c it has a milder and sweeter flavor than Indian and Thai curry.

Thanks for the link!

Actually in looking at some recipes, I think Indian food might be a better fit for my guys. We like it spicy!

Get thee to Trader Joes! I go to a local Indian grocery b/c it is cheaper, but the TJs stuff is geared for American tastes

Good luck and awesome to expose your kids to new foods. It drives me crazy when my students will only eat certain (very American) things and not try samosas or other treats that are brought in by other students. I complemented a parent whose children are all very eager to try new things and she said that she used to cook or bring home different ethnic take-out and say "oh, you won''t want this, it is very sophisticated grown up food." genius!

Alas, we have no TJ''s. My international cuisine aisle is at walmart.
