So I have finally agreed to upgrade our tv. We don't have that flat screen, mount on the wall tv like all our friends. Help me find an above average tv with a great price tag. I want a good price so I can spend my money on family vacations and sparklies of course! We don't have to have the BEST on the market but above average with good consumer reviews is a must. Help me shop :wink2:

I am not too sure about prices/deals, because DH works for Best Buy so we get deals on our electronics. But, we do have 2 flat screens and they are awesome. In our bedroom we have a 42" sony bravia (lcd), and it's amazing. Downstairs we have a 50" Panasonic (plasma). Both are great tv's. I'm sure others will chime in with their recommendations as well! Happy shopping! :wavey:

Ours was about 1000 or so from best buy. It's a 42 inch samsung and we got it during a huge Christmas sale and got a free samsung blu ray player with it as well! I love it and would recommend it to anyone :) We got it at best buy

I did get DH to agree to wait for Thanksgiving/Christmas sales. We also might join costco again as they have good prices on electronics.
Anyone else?

Ditto! We have the 42" and my inlaws have the same in 50". They are both amazing TV's.

Samsungs get very good ratings. I think he wants a 50'

I don't think he'll be sorry with the 50" Samsung. We both got ours at Sams Club for a very reasonable price.

We just bought a Samsung 42inch. It was $698.00, it's a very good TV! I thought maybe we should go bigger (to around 50inches) but the price jump was crazy! Almost an extra $800.00

Since December of 2009 we have the SAMSUNG LED 55 inch. I'm not an electronics person but this TV is AWESOME. The 1080P/240 hz makes it seem like the shows are live in your living room. It takes some time to get used to but it's awesome. We have their "7" series. We did lots of research before making this purchase and Samsung is top notch from what we read on many diff. sites. The TV itself is like 1 inch thick..it's so slim and light that it was easy to handle such a huge tv. I thought the 55inch would be too big for our living room but it doesn't feel that much bigger than the Sharp Aquos we had that was 46in (another good brand).

GL with your purchase

Last yr we waited for the holidays to get a good price. I told my husband to wait for the super bowl specials but he didn't want to wait. BOY did he regret it. Our TV went on sale for $400 less in a matter of a few wks

We just bought a 50 inch plasma Panasonic. I think Panasonic gets pretty good ratings. We had a 3 year old 42 inch LED that
the audio died on. It was fixed once for about a week then died again. We spent about $1100 on that tv 3 years ago and only
about $650 on the new plasma so if it dies in 3 years or so we are ok with the price we spent. One thing is that it is only a
720p but with my and my DHs 40+ eyesight we could hardly tell the difference between the 720 and 1080 (very sad I know).
We got ours at HHgregs. They have lots of TVs on display so you can do lots of comparisons. Good luck.

We got our 42" Sony Brevia (LCD) at Best Buy and we love it. I can't remember how much we paid for it, but I don't think the price was outrageous or anything. The TV is large enough without being too big. I don't think I'd get anything larger unless we had a home theater/media room in our house. We briefly looked at plasma TVs but we liked the LCDs better.

LG!! ;))
i bought a 40" samsung LCD for our bedroom b/c i love their (TOC) red frame. i have a 19" Samsung on top of my desk.

here's a tip...don't buy the models that just came out yesterday :nono: these will come down in price very quickly just wait a few months before you buy it. ;))

We have a 58" Samsung Plasma in our living room, and a 42" Panasonic Plasma in our bedroom. The Panasonic wins hands down. Our Samsung has a faint buzzing sound which we were told was characteristic for plasmas, but the Panasonic is completely buzz free. As for the price, I believe Samsung and Panasonic are on the same price scale (less than Sony), but we got a great deal on the Panasonic with a package deal including a blue-ray player from Best Buy.

If it were me, I would wait until the 3d tv's come down in price.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the one that broke on us after 3 years was an RCA (I guess everyone except us already knew not
to buy one) but just in case you didnt...DONT by RCA! (stickly my opinion but I think you can google and find lots of others who
feel the same)
