I need anti-enablers.

I had some um... traffic indescretions that came to a significant amount of money this month. But that''s all BEHIND us now. STILL I need to be fiscally responsible. BUT I have my birthday coming up and despite my (sincerely) strenuous objections that now that I''m married and that the only person that might buy me a birthday present is my husband, my family gave me money for my (upcoming) birthday. And it''s well... burning a whole in my pocket. In light of this months indescretions I have had to put my stud order on hold till November and I KNOW I should put this money in the bank, pretend it''s not there... and then use it toward my studs. BUT, well... I keep getting tempted by small projects.

Like setting my turqouise pieces so that I can finish my set... which is really tempting cause I can get that done for a rather inexpensive amount. SO I am trying to be good, because I REALLY do want the studs, the sooner the better and the more I save the closer that goal becomes.

But I''m can be so much of an instant gratification brat that I''ve almost hit BUY on the setting I want for the turqouise 10 times in the last 48 hours.

So can you guys help me good and keep the long term goal in mind... I really do have a nice amount of jewelry and do NOT need more between now and November. And the studs are really worth the wait.

But it''s frankly a stress thing. Right now I''m in the middle of some negotiations that are really critical and never ending (it seems) and with hostile opposing counsel, and when I get stressed I buy. I''m so bad.

So... anti-enablers? Bling Addicts Anoymous? Encouragment?

Hey Layla,
Put that money away, so you can get the studs you really want. You have gorgeous jewelry your taste is impeccable. BUT you need the studs!! Did that help??

Buy yourself a cheap bauble from a department store to get your immediate satisfaction then put the rest away for your gorgeous studs!

YOU CAN DO IT!

If that doesn''t work; You should be ASHAMED of your traffic indiscretions and you shouldn''t even contemplate buying something for yourself!

ahhh! a kindred spirit!

gypsy, the truth of it is that the small projects can be done so much more easily than the bigger ones. keep the money for the studs; you''ll knock off the turquoise project with money you''ll come by much more easily. but the studs will take a chunk. keeping the money for the studs is your surest path to getting both studs AND turquoise.

by not hitting that ''buy'' button now, you''re making it most likely that you''ll get everything. buying now makes it likely you''ll only get the smaller of the two projects done. this is one of those occasions where less really will lead to more.

I'm going to Davidson & Licht this afternoon.

Hehe-but really you should wait.

Get that money out of your pocket and into the bank NOW! You will feel so much better when you can buy those studs guilt-free in November, honey, you will.

If you need instant gratification, how about some of the following:

- A really good movie (Hilarious movie? Romantic comedy? Feel-good?) ($1 from Redbox, Free from library)

- Go sit in a book store, pull as many interesting reads as you can carry from the shelves, cozy up in a spot by the window in the cafe, order yourself an indulgent drink, and just be. Sit there for as long as it takes to feel calm and inspired by something you read. ($3ish)

- Go to a dog park. Play with the bubbas. (Free)

- Do you have an iPod? Go to the library, check out some bands you''ve always wanted to hear but never got around to, and put them on your iPod. Or play them in your car. Whatever. (Free)

- Make a recipe you''ve had your eye on for a while. You are our resident foodie, right? ($10+, depending on recipe)

- Buy yourself a smaller-than-the-turquoise-setting yet still indulgent gift with some of that money.

- Get a mani/pedi or some other indulgent thing that you don''t normally do.

You can do it! The sooner you get that money into the bank, the better!

Gypsy - take $30 of the money, and get a movie and some snacks and have a fun, relaxing, light-hearted evening with John. Decompress, laugh, and cuddle with your husband and relax that way. And while you''re out running errands, deposit your money and feel virtuous.

Also, mark the day you get to order the studs on your calendar and cross off the days as they pass so that you stay focused on the big goal.

Okay so the money goes to the bank at lunch.

I will get a nice book and maybe a nice indulgent pedicure or massage or something. Plus I'm springing for dinner at the Salt Lick when I go to Austin at the end of the month, so as long as I keep that in mind, maybe I can be good.

Yes, Kaleigh, that did help. :-)

Something Shiny... the being ashamed of the indescretions is a BIG thing. And a good reminder. I actions have consequences, and I need to just accept my consequences.

Whity... that makes a lot of sense to me. If I am good now, I can get both (and maybe turqouise enhancers for my studs

) ... ALL of them. Less is more. I'm gonna have to put that up somewhere.

Princess... I like the calendar idea. A lot.

I did buy a 10 dollar tourmaline off ebay... so if that gets here soon, that may help with some of the feeling.

And if I need instant gratification. I will take Haven's music or book suggestion.

Thank you guys I needed that. I will keep being good.

Neatfreak... visit my band. GOD I really want that thing. And I have a plan where I might get it. And you would get a huge laugh at that plan.

You''ll definitely end up happier with gorgeous studs, so it''s good to hear you decided to save the money!

I think Haven''s ideas to keep your mind off of instant gratification purchases are great. I know manicures and pedicures usually help take my mind off of other things, so hopefully that will help. Maybe print out a picture of the studs you want (or ones that look like what you want) and look at that as a reminder of what you WILL be getting as a reward for saving the money!

Lilac, you are right. I am gettina reward and a great one at that.

And I just remembered something I want that will give me some gratification. This great shampoo that I keep forgetting to buy because I have to go out of my way to get it, and it''s pricey.

Neatfreak... here''s the salon I go to BTW.... Mary Beth is my stylist. http://www.yelp.com/biz/montgomery-beauty-salon-dublin

Gypsy- you are inspiring me... I need to have more self control. I've been busy with little projects here and there, and I really want to just get my big ol' project completed too, so after my pending mini projects are completed which I already have deposits for

.. I am attempting to contain myself and socking away the funds for what I actually want.
